I've tried searching and can't find a strait answer. Should a '53 6 cylinder with a stock fuel delivery setup have a vented or non-vented gas cap? The one that is on mine is non-vented, but very poor fitting so I know it is not stock and not sealing correctly. Probably just one someone had laying around and threw on there. I want to get the correct one.

According to my parts manual a 52-54 fuel tank has a vent line Figure 9200, but there is no part number I can find.. So that would make the cap non-vented.

Non vented deep tang is probably what you need seen in the picture here almost every aftermarket ones out there are a short tang,I did find a locking cap that does work on my '54. The Illustration above shows the common short tang caps used mostly after 1954. What I have found odd over the years is that most of the places that sell replacement tanks do not include the caps or sell the replacements. '55fuelcap.jpg
