i haven't looked too deeply into the gen light but you do have a point, and when I spoke to the guy on the phone he suggested leaving the old voltage regulator right where it was and just pull the old wires except for the lead to my amp meter but a volt meter would be pretty cool too
There are some one wire alt/gens that have an extra wire for the gen light. They list them for Y-Block Fords.
So I got my 6v alternator the other day and finally got around to putting it in and getting a bigger belt. I'm gonna have to make a different upper bracket as the oem one doesn't fit
Go to a pick a part yard and find one that is meant for an alternator. Take your old one with you to size up replacement.
Quick solution turned out to be flipping the bracket and adding a quarter inch spacer and running the bolt through the front
So took the car out and drove through town and on the freeway for an hour or so and came to a light and it just died in the intersection. So while waiting for aaa I pulled the carb off. I noticed when I tried figuring it out in the intersection gas was leaking from the a couple gasket spots and was dripping gas even when it had no throttle. Took 5 shop towels to soak up the gas in my intake manifold. Needless to say it looks like time for a rebuild and maybe a fuel pressure regulator
Stuck float? Smacking it with a wrench, while feathering the gas j while it's running usually sorts it out temporarily.
Have to do this with my Willys Aero Eagle from time to time. I need to rebuild the carb, but can't seem to find the rebuild kit I order a while back.
Did you find a way of indicating whether the charging system is functioning? A voltmeter is simple enough, except that you have 6 volt system and those voltmeters may be hard to find. I just designed an indicator that will sense 6.3 volts and turn off the indicator. It is really small and should fit into the bulb well that the bulb socket plugs into. Simple to hook up, just hook (in your case) positive to ground, negative to ignition switch run position. It uses an LED, so power consumption is very low.
I just unhooked everything from the voltage regulator and ran the power wire to the post that also has my ammeter wires connected to it. So if I'm in the positives I know I'm good
Got my carb parts in last night and did a quick rebuild now the cars running better than before so I'm pretty stoked
