Hey all, I have a chance to get the front clip to a 53 mercury for pretty cheap. I love the front end of that car! I know someone in this group had a merc front end on their ford, but I can't remember who. I was wondering what it would take in order to put this front end onto my 54? I know everything was kind of similar, just don't know if it would be a direct bolt on or not. As always, all the help is very appreciated! Thanks, Rocky
You might find this to be of interest:http://1954ford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1176 Here is the deal, when Ford went to IFS in 1954 the inner fender panels changed to accommodate the new A-frame change so the inner fender panels will need some t******* you want to be sure and get the frame to bumper brackets from the Merc too, try to make a template from the front of the Mercs frame to see where you may have to drill for mounting.Fords and Mercs share the same hood hinges and 52-54 Fords and Mercs use the same hoods(Ford to Ford Merc to Merc)
The wheel base is longer on a Mercury, so the the front wheels will not be in the center of wheel well. I installed a 52 Mercury front sheet metal on my 54 ford (business coupe)and had to graft my 54 fenders with the 52 mercury fenders to make it look right. alot of work!!!! I used a 54 lincoln hood(didn't want the Mercury hood scoop) You also have to graft the front frame horns from Mercury to Ford frame so you can mount Mercury front bumper. Front inner fender panels also need to be modified. The Mercury front end on a Ford can be done with some work.
My 54 Mercury front fenders are the same lenght as 54 Ford, and from front door edge to center of front spindle is the same as Ford.
Thanks for the input fellas. I'm just waiting on the person to get back to me about it. Hopefully we can work something out.
