Brad - welcome to Missouri. Come visit when you get an opportunity. I promise to show you carburetors you have never seen before!

I'm replacing the fuel tank. After I gave it a quick cleaning it looked like Swiss cheese! Too far gone for sealer/jb weld in my opinion. I don't think an old timer that tins would even monkey with it.

The new tank came in today. I found 1 online for an Olds, it was steel and nearly $500.00 delivered.
So I asked around, and an old friend suggested I look at one for a 53 Chevy. It's a bit deeper, has a baffle, but smaller in length. I can make it work. I think its 16 gallons. The amazing thing is the fill spout lines up the same if its in a full forward mounting position. With 30 ohm sending unit it was about $275.00 delivered.

  5. Could have the old one boiled out and cleaned? I had one on a Olds station wagon that had many leaks in it but was real rare because it was a station wagon. The guy was able to seal all the leaks and boil it out for about $100. for me.Just sayin.Bruce.

Yes, they didn't stock an Olds tank for 53. But they had a good variety of Chevy tanks. I'm very pleased so far.

This one was terrible Bruce. The pictures don't do it justice. Had been resealed many years ago. I'd estimate it had over 100 holes in it. The more I cleaned it the more I found.

This tank doesn't look horrible in the pics, but it really is, some of the metal is paper thin.
Drove about 100 yards. The accelerator pump was shot.I'm waiting on parts. Brakes feel pretty decent, going to check them out carefully.

Might be a good idea to flush the brake system and look very carefully at the lines and hoses.I never seem to buy cars that have functional brakes so I just automatically rebuild them---.
