I'm using a '53 or '55 Ford Truck column and turnsignal switch in my '28. With a steering wheel out of a '40 Ford ( convertible, although that probalbly doesnt matter ) I have the horn button on the dash. I'm putting in a different steeringwheel, and I'd like to move the horn button to the center of the steering wheel. My questions... Did the '53 or '55 truck have the button on the wheel? If so, what did the horn brush connector look like? Where can one be bought? If not, what horn brush connector can be modified to work? Thanks...
Not sure about that particular column.... but alot of the early trucks had a wire that ran down thru the steering shaft for the horn... Oh... and hey Alex... good talking to you today
Good talking to you too, and thanks for ordering my tubing for me... Shit, looks like I'm overthinking this horn button thing. I'm looking at brush connectors on Ebay, and I was even looking at adapting some carbon brushes out of a vacuum cleaner... A simple wire down the center of the column would do the trick too. I'll check if its drilled, tomorrow... Thanks.
yup 53-56 f100s have the wire down the middle, a metal plate, a spring and a horn button with retainer (the button twists on). also the f100 steering shaft is splined not keyed, so a '40 wheel won't work. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/971034-53-56-f100-column-repair.html
I have a '40 wheel, so I guess the shaft must be a '40 too. ( the top of it, it has a borgensen U-Joint in it ) I know the box is a '53 or '55, and the column came with the box. I must have been mixing and matching parts, and forgot about it...
Yep... I just checked. The shaft is hollow. I should have known that, but I forgot. That was pretty dumb.... Thanks guys. You just saved me a whole bunch of time.
