IM CURRENTLY HAGGELING DOWN THE OWNER OF THIS 53 CHEVY. IF I GET IT FOR THE PRICE IM OFFERING ILL STILL BE IN A POSITION TO DO SOME WORK TO HER. THE FIRST THING I WANTED TO DO WAS A WICKED ASS CHOP, THE MORE THE BETTER. IM A SHORT S.O.B. SO IT WONT MATTER. I ALSO HAVE THE IDEA OF SUICIDING THE DOORS. MY QUESTION IS, SHOULD THE SUICIDE BE DONE FIRST(IF EVEN POSSIBLE). I DONT WANT TO CHOP HER THEN GO TO SUICIDING THE DOORS AND HAVE A GAP. IF ANYONE HAS ONE DONE ID LOVE TO SEE SOME PICS IVE BEEN BEATING MY HEAD TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW IT WOULD LOOK

Suicide doors are cool and all.....
I appreciate the work that goes into making them work right...
I just got one teensy little problem with them..
They don't do shit for the lines of the car,
They don't show when you're going down the road...
    If you want my respect.....
    Gull wing 'em........]

Do the chop first..if you pull that off OK,then see if you want to redo both damn doors just to look cool with your doors open..
    Just my .02 worth

THE MAIN REASON I LIKE THE SUICIDE LOOK IS REALLY NOT FOR STYLE, IT REMINDS ME OF OLD GANGSTER ROLLIN UP OPENING THE DOORS WITH A TOMMY GUN IN HAND. TRUE THEY ARE DRIVING 30S MODEL CARS, BUT IM JUST DOING WHAT I CAN. BUT YALL ARE RIGHT, I DONT WANT IT DONE AND HAVE MY DOORS FALL OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD

If you want a gangster look, you don't want a top chop, you want skirts, a visor, a taildragger stance, maybe one gold tooth in the grille.

A top chop could look killer on that car too, with a nice repaint and a trim shave.

Not sure where the suicide doors come in, looks cool on the back doors of a big sedan, but it's a TON of work and when your doors are closed, it doesn't show. Plus it's downright dangerous if it's not done correctly. Leave the suicide doors for the 30's cars.

    Don't be a puss....flip them doors.

Now you got peer-pressure from both sides. Make up your OWN mind for YOUR own car.

Here's a question. Since when do all custom tricks have to be seen when you are going down the road? I think not knowing they are suicide until you are stepping out is the cool part. Besides then you get to fold yourself in half, ass-first, and keep your head down getting into that chopped slammed suicide machine!!!

    I gotta agree with that..
Unless you know this kat and his skill's, that seems a bit harsh.

I also have to agree with the rest. My own worthless oppinion, i wouldn't do the door's.
It's going to be lot's of work, and like was already mentioned, your not going to know it was done by looking at it.
Unless you park it with the door's open, which it taboo on a custom...
No better way to 'break' the line's of a well done custom that to open something up...

As far as chopping it, your already way ahead because it's a coupe. You don't have to mess with the wrap around backlite.....

It's a cool car from what i see in the pic..good luck in getting it and whatever you do with it..
And remember, it's YOUR car so do what you want.

That car has been for sale for a loooong time....I tried to inquire about it a couple of times but never got any responses back....Hopefully you will get it for a more resonable price considering what you want to do to it....Think about it holmes,,,there are tons of these already done for what he asking....

damn bro:D the way i pictured it in my head didnt look as good. For a minute there I thought the old man sold her. Good work man, makes her look mean:D .....AN EVERYBODY, AS FAR AS THE REST OF THE CAR, IVE ALWAYS LIKED THE CLEAN SHAVED LOOK,DOOR HANDLES, TRIM, FRENCHED LIGHTS, RAINGUARDS, AND POSSIBLY ALOT MORE. MY PREVIOUS RIDE WAS ALL SHAVED(i dont care to disclose any pics of it, wasnt exactly HAMB friendly.) BUT I ALWAYS LIKED THE SHOCK FACTOR I GOT WHEN SOMEBODY WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR. I JUST THINK ID REALLY BLOW THEM AWAY WHEN THE DOOR OPENS FROM THE WRONG END. ITS ALOT OF WORK AND CASH, AND I WILL NOT DO IT IF ITS NOT DONE RIGHT. TRYIN TO FIND A WAY TO SET YOUR RIDE APART FROM THE REST IS REALLY HARD THESE DAYS.

He was asking an opinion about something (which is dangerous to do anyway), and ya take a shot at his abilities. I have'nt seen too many cars that could'nt be fixed from a bad chop and I've seen and fixed alot of them. But unless you know the guy and are making fun, this was a cheap shot.

YA $4,500 IS WAY TO STEEP, BUT IVE LIVED IN THE SAME HOOD FOR A LOOOOONG TIME. SO I SEE THE CAR EVERYDAY, IT JUST MAKES ME WANT IT MORE. ITS REALLY OUT OF THE OLDMANS HANDS THAT HAS IT, HE HAS 2 GREETY KIDS THAT HOUND HIM ABOUT IT. NEITHER OF THE 2 LIVE IN TEXAS AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THEIR DAD, BUT ONE OF THE KIDS DOES HOLD THE TITLE(so im told). WHERE DID YOU SEE IT BEING SOLD AT, AS FAR AS KNEW HE NEVER PUT AN AD OUT FOR IT. MAKES ME WONDER IF THE KIDS ARE TRYING TO SELL IT WITHOUT HIM KNOWING.

Shhhhhhhhhh Joel, be wery wery quite I'm hunting wabbits!

He didn't take a shot. He did however make a wise statement that you over looked! If you think about it, better to cut your customizing teeth on a bad chop then to try and cut them on a good car. Then at that rate, he may be a natural and be able to correct someone else's mistake AND create a beautiful car........or he could just screw the pooch even more and end up with a topless car.

    Think about it Punk!

    I don't understand.
In the first post, you say you're "haggling down the owner of the car."

    Then you say;
"It's really out of the oldmans (sic) hands that has it. He has 2 greety (sic) kids that hound him about it. Neither of the two live in Texas and have nothing to do with their dad, but one of the kids does hold the title (so I'm told)."

So, who are you negotiating with?

That, and the fact that "the main reason I like the suicide look is really not for style, it remind me of old gangster rollin up opening the door with tommy gun in hand" would lead some to believe that this is all BS. Unless, of course, you like to roll into shows with the door swingin' open before you stop, and brandishing a tommy gun as you exit in your suit and fedora. That's possible.... I guess......

"SHOULD THE SUICIDE BE DONE FIRST(IF EVEN POSSIBLE). I DONT WANT TO CHOP HER THEN GO TO SUICIDING THE DOORS AND HAVE A GAP"

If that's your worry -- which sequence will cause a "gap" -- well, hell. Either one could cause a gap if done improperly, and neither will cause a gap if done with precision and care.
If you chop her first (and consult enough guys who've done it and get their advice before just whackin' away at it), the chop should come out smooth. Then you've got a '53 Stovebolt with a roof and doors that fit properly.

If you still want to suicide the doors...

(and what's THAT all about? Isn't that a thing that only shows after the gold chainers have power parked and they're all comparing how many mods were made for the sake of making mods?

... then what's the difference if you're suiciding a '53 Chevy with taller windows or mail slots? The gaps will come up if you weren't proficient enough on either of the mods.

My personal vote would be to avoid the suicides -- they always strike me as a statement of how much money/time the owner spent, not on any added value or added grace they bring to the car. You wanna exit with a submachine gun and look like a gangster? That's a good image, but it doesn't add anything to the CAR, and that's what I care most about.

Sorry if this turned in to a rant, it's just MHO. It's your car, you follow your guiding star. As long as it's what you wanted and you achieve it, I've got your back.

Getting back to chopping up the car under scrutiny... I was looking at the pic of this green forlorn survivor and had a vision... so I grabbed the pad and laid some quick line.... check it out.

SO ALOT OF HONEST INFO. AND ALOT OF TAKING WHAT I SAID A LITTLE BIT TO LITERALY, WHICH I CAN SEE WHY YOU WOULD DO TO MY BAD GRAMMER AND POOR EXPLANATIONS. GANGSTERS AND TOMMY GUNS ARE COOL AN ALL, BUT ITS JUST A SMALL VISION I GET WHEN I SEE OLD VINTAGE HOT RODS, AS DO ALOT OF PEOPLE. IT IS JUST A THOUGHT ON THE DOORS, I DONT WANT TO OVERLOAD MY BRAIN THOUGH. GETTING THE CAR IS #1 ON THE LIST AND THAT IS STRESSFUL ENUFF ON ITS OWN. BUT I AGREE WITH TOLEDOBILL IT CAN BE DONE AND IT CAN BE DONE RIGHT. IF I DID IT, AND ITS DONE RIGHT. IT MAY BE A SITE FOR SORE EYES TO ALOT OF DISBEALEVERS, BUT MAYBE THATS WHAT WILL SET MY RIDE APART FROM THE REST. EVERY CAR HAS A PERSONAL SIGNATURE, NO MATTER WHAT I SEE IN ANOTHERS RIDE, I CAN RESPECT THE WORK AND TIME SPENT AS LONG AS ITS DONE RIGHT.

One of the main problems with bassakwards doors is the fact that the door jam wasn't designed to carry that much load. We have a car in the shop right now that has suicide doors, and the inner quarter panels are buckling and the doors are sagging. Part of this ones problem is that the hinges could not be spread apart far enough because of the top to bottom curve. You need to get the hinges as far apart as possible, but the hinge pin also has to be as close to the outer body skin as possible for them to open correctly. There is a lot more work to pull this off than the average person takes into consideration. I personally think they suck. There is no masculine way to get into a car with backwards doors. However, you will draw a large crowd if your lady likes to wear short skirts!
