I put a set of Areostar coils on my 53 4dr over the weekend. They work great and the car rides fine. I had coils that had two coils removed. The new ones raised the car 1 inch. It now has 7inches of clearance at the front of the rocker panels and they cost $60 at Auto Zone.

Was it $60 for the pair, or each? I really wanna do this in Spring- no pun intended.

That's for the pair, the Autozone part number is: Durolast FCS850V.

Great, Scott! I think the A-star springs and some 2" blocks would really make a change for the better in your car. Have you ever photoshopped it lower? If not, try it. Even a mild change like this can make all the difference in the world...and cheap, too! :D

Thanks for the part # and info Jeff! I agree Eric- simple, inexpensive, and I think it will make a big difference.

I haven't figured out how to send pictures yet but will soon. I sat the new spring next to the one I took off and they were the same height (12 inches). To install, you remove the shock, 2 clips that hold the stabelizer bar and 4 bolts from the bottom of the a-arm. When I lowered the arm with the floor jack, the 12 inch coil practicly fell out on its own. The weather here is cold and snowy so I haven't got the car out again but I willreal soon. Also, it took us less than 4 hours to change the springs. If I had known how easy and cheap it was I would haave done this years ago!

There's a thread here on the Ford Social Group which, thanks to Skoh73. tells just how to post photos, step by step using ImageShack. Easy, once you get the hang of it. Try it. You'll like it! :)

Vein, it lowers it I think 2" and keeps a stock ride feeling.

Vein, I put these on a car that had been lowered about 3 1/2 inches in the front and rode like it had no springs. I measured the wheel opening before we installed the springs and it was 23 1/2 inches. Opening is now 24 3/4 inches and it rides as good as my 2003 Impala. I'll soon be 69 years old and the ride means a lot, but I didn't want to raise the car. I'm more than satisfied with the look. The car has a 6cylinder and a 55 Pontiac front bumper and it may settle some.
