The spacer moves the pump out a bit so the eccentric hit the arm at the same place it would if in a 318.

Yea I figured that but look at the pic. The stock 318 arm is already shorter than the stock hemi. If I space it out it won't even touch the eccentric.

Here is a pic of the inside of the timing cover. I drew around the stock pump and marked were the eccentric wears. Then I installed the 318 pump with spacer. I don't think it will even touch the eccentric when installed with the spacer.

Here is the 318 pump with no spacer. Looks like it might work.

    Am I missing something?

hi, it may have been mentioned earlier but have you thought of running a hiden electric pump and plumbing it through the standard fuel pump and just cut the arm of. i did this on my stock 354 hemi when having fuel pump problems.
i take it your using the standard pump for looks as it isn't the most reliable of items. IMO
    Cheers

Changing directions on this thread for a few. I also wanted to redo and modify my frame and air ride setup. Since my last update I have pulled the body and cut off an 1" off the bottom of the frame so that the body will lay rockers. Here is a few pics.

Ok will be done with the frame in a week or two. Hope to go get the block and heads so that i can make motor/trans mounts while waiting on pistons.

Who makes the better trans mount for a 331/700R4 Wilcap or HHH?

Its tight but I think it will fit. No cutting either. Will make new radiator mount. Very happy.

So after a day and a half thinking and looking at motor mounts I have decided to use what I got. I changed the trans mounts on the ol flat 6 a few years ago. After some slight modifications I think I can make them work. Basically im building mounts that use the biscuit style mounts.

Sitting on its own mounts. Left side is off a 1/4" will pull the body off tomorrow night and mount the trans and work on cross member and move left mount forward to square the motor in the frame. Had to off set the motor to the passenger side roughly 1/2". Once the motor/trans is mounted the I will move on to the driveshaft and exhaust. Stay tuned....

During my mock up of the engine i noticed that my ARP Head studs are too long. Now i dont have any gaskets in place but the valve cover hits the studs not allowing me to bolt it on correctly. It says 392 on the box, but i think they only make one kit for all the early motors?? Do i need to cut them down??

    Thanks
    Matt

Yes, ARP head studs are too long for the stock valve covers. You will have to trim them, or use valve cover spacers.

...be careful about which end you cut...

  19. I had to trim mine a bit to fit stock covers.

Great build. Looking good. I believe my engine builder drilled and tapped the holes deeper to install my head studs.

I was hoping my header flanges would have been here this weekend but it wasn't ment to be. That's ok because I gotta lot of clean up and mods to finish on the frame. Just finished MC mount.

Got my flanges today. Also when to the junk yard at work a yanked a later Mopar alternator. Was gonna go with the original generator but it covers up too much of the beauty of this motor. Did a search on the hemi pages and seen that someone used a later Mopar alt and mounted it somewhat out of the way. So after about 15 mins of some quick fab ( just to see if it will work). Here's what I have come up with. Should work. I even love that it is a double pulley. Who needs a belt tensioner?

That's about where my Alt is. A Claw Hammer looks better in a pic than a Sledge!

Kind of limited on where the Mopar alernator can be mounted.

Depends on hood clearance, or if you have a hood. On my avatar car my Alt is where the Gen used to be.

Anybody got a stock 1954 331 Chrysler fuel pump laying around? Egge makes a rebuild kit but i think mine is too far gone. I took a pump out of 56 desoto last night but no go.

    Thanks
