Have a '54 Chev 1/2T pickup according to the serial, but it's got every piece of the 1st series '55 rear suspension & axle. Data plate with numbers never screwed with; rear end obviously grew there.
Anyone seen another ? Early production line trial fit ?
Have seen 2 '55 1st 3/4T with late '55 rear fenders, so we know things like that aren't unique.

Don’t the 55-1 have open drive rear ends?

I also think the beds were maybe wider/different as they could use a TF tailgate also.

These links are to the GM heritage center vehicle info kits for 54 and 55 chevy trucks https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...its/chevrolet-trucks/1954-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf

It may have been right at the end of production and they ran out of torque tube rear axles or transmissions or even a right at the deadline order that they put a 54 door post plate on and sent out. Or and end of the year truck built for an employee in the plant with the new transmission and axle.

These images are from those pfds and show serial numbers for transmission and axle and that may be a clue. Screenshot (417).png Screenshot (418).png
