What type of alternator bracket are you all using when doing a conversion on a 1954 235 and where are you getting them? Also whats the best 1 wire alternator to get? Im not gonna have a radio or electric fan...Thanks in advance..
My best advice is to drill/slot out your existing 6 volt generator bracket so you can move it forward enough to match the alignment of the new 12V alternator pulley with all the other pulleys. Use a long bolt on the bottom with some lock washers and it wont budge. Its how I have mine and it is rugged and solid with no wear on belts or wabble at any rpm. Just have to align the pulleys correctly.
I want to say my 1 wire was from a 1977 Camaro. When you wire it, you will need to wire the no. 2 terminal to the Batt. post- This is what will "excite" your alternator to begin charging since you will be removing the voltage regulator. Takes mine approx 1200-1500 rpm to engage.
i used the generator bracket, just flipped it and then some washers to align the belts, got the 1 wire alt from autozone
Cool thanks for the help and part number..Looks like Ill just be getting a universal mount...Kinda find it hard to pay $70 for the one that is offered for the car..
