Hey there, I'm going to ask something about this carburetor that I already know the answer to. So I did the quickie carb rebuild, new needle and seat, gaskets, accelerator pump (or whatever they called it back then), etc. Nothing extravagant. Both before the rebuild and now after the rebuild, gas literally pours from the orifice that the pencil is pointing to. I can sort of keep the truck running, but I'm telling you that it drenches the intake and exhaust manifolds and makes a mess. I've gotta believe that it's a stuck float or bad needle and seat. I have already pulled the carb a second time and double checked float adjustments, looked for holes in the floats, checked for debris in the needle and seat area. Can someone confirm that I just need to do what I always do when I rebuild a carburetor and go out and buy a brand new one or is there something that perhaps I'm overlooking in the rebuild? thanks
Hard to tell with the pic. Missing plug ? Or bad needle/float installation. Running the engine is a bad idea
Take the float out and shake it close to your ear, you might hear gas inside sloshing around. Those floats do get pinholes in them. Even a little extra weight and you can't get them to work, so don't try soldering one, get a fresh one. Though I have used epoxy to fix them in a pinch. A 180 degree oven will force the gas out, leave the oven door ajar and open the kitchen window. Note; electric oven, NOT gas!
