Searched online and HAMB threads for this info with no real luck. My dad has a '54 Chevy Belair all original with a generator that sounds like it has bad bearings. Its a model 1100028 generator, s/n 4F18. Does anyone have info or a source on replacement bearings?
Any decent parts place should be able to find the bearing, which is still in common use. Any bearing & seal businesses in that part of the country ? The rear frame is bushed, and easy to change. A set of brushes, polish the armature in your drill press, all parts scrubbed & baked dry should get you going. If you have trouble finding the bearing, let us know -
Get ahold of @e1956v . Rusty is an Alliance Vendor and did a great job on my generator and would bet he could help ya out.
Following up on this thread. Got Rusty and my Dad in touch, he sent the generator and voltage regulator to Rusty. Armature was toast but Rusty replaced it, tested with the v-reg off the car and my dad just emailed that it was working great. Thank you Countn'Carbs for telling me about Rusty at Speedoservice.com and thank you Rusty for taking care of my dad. It means the world to me. If anyone else needs generator or other work I highly recommend Rusty. This is just one more example of how great the H.A.M.B. is. Good people helping other good people.
Usually can't give away those generators anymore, 11 years ago a car I bought had like 30 of them and they're still up in a storage van even though I was able to ID most of them.
