hey guys, it's been a while since i've posted on here but it's also been a while since i've worked on my car too. This is my first attempt at making a car my own so i'm doing things backasswards i'm sure. Since getting the car a little over a year ago I've put a small block and th-350 in place, with a 8.2 rear end. Changed the master cylinder and added a power booster redid all the brake lines and hoses and have a disk brake conversion kit on the way for the front. The last couple weekend ive decide to try my hand at body work. ive started shaving all the trim and door handles. Which leads me to my questions. There are numerous holes where the trim used to be...what is the best way to get rid of them? most are fairly small and i think should be welded in? the larger ones i figure making little patches to weld in place? Next question is about the back glass. It looks like the trim is wrapped around the glass to me. So how do you get it off? i figure take out the whole window...ok. how do i get the window out? any help is always appreciated. I've got pictures for those interested... remember i've never done any of this before though.
The trim fits in a groove in the rubber, and can't be removed without removing the window. You'll probably want to replace that rear rubber since it's probably hard, so go inside the car and use a utility knife to cut the outside edge of the rubber off (mine was so hard I used a hammer and wood chisel). Then push on the glass till it pops loose. Sometimes spraying wd40 along it will help, and pounding along the edge with your fist will usually loosen it. As far as the holes, weld them up just the way you said, if you can get a piece of brass behind them it really helps to dissipate heat and bridge the hole with weld. What do you plan to do with the little stainless pieces that sit above the gravel shields? I could use them.
thanks, that brass idea sounds awesome, i think i can get behind most of them. The gravel shield being on the front of the quarter panel? i can go look for them tomorrow if i find them ill take some pictures of them, see if you still want them. the right side had a big dent in it most of that trim is bent up.
