Hello , I have a 54' bel air sedan already have TCI mustang 2 installed & 4 link with QA1 coil overs in rear , my question is , if I installed air ride( shockwaves or bags) in rear without notching frame , how low will it go ?? I'm guessing either the rear diff will hit or axle tubes hit bump stops when aired out . Anyone ever installed air ride without notch or laying frame , is it worth the trouble ? Really don't want to cut car up ( trunk & frame) . Thanks for any help !!!

There have been threads on this in the past. (I recall because I had a 54 Chevy). What you will get is bang, bang, bang, bang as the tube pounds the underside of the car.

You may get around 3" lower than stock without putting in a step notch but that is all. Just measure the distance from the axle tubes to your frame and allow appr. 3" of travel. That measurement is the distance that you can lower it from the heigh it is now.

Thanks , with the 4 link & QA1 coil overs its low now , about 5-7 " from ground to rocker, but I thought I could go lower with air & benefit from raising up to ride height as Pa. Roads*****, with exceptions here and there.

Ha, your right p.a. Roads do*****. Air ride would allow you to quickly raise it up when needed. It seems like a lot of the driveway and enterances/exits are steep as hell in that area.

Yeah, so I'm guessing I'll remove the QA1s & see how far down she goes to bump stops & see if it's worth putting the air ride in. Maybe go with a mild notch , got a feeling I go there , I'll want it slammed , love the look of the slammed cars but hate to chop up a good stock car .

Just to give a point of reference , I'm about 18 1/2" from the ground to the top of the rear wheel well with 3" drop springs and 2 3/4" lowing blocks -did have to do a step notch but didn't want to mess with the tunnel area and raising the wheel wells.

You can trim the bump stops a little, but don't go too far because the next step will be things hitting the floor pan and tunnel.
