OK, here goes! I need hambers to help me out with some dumb questions . Money is tight might have to make my car road ready quick . if i wanna keep it. This car is gonna be a daily driver. thats why im asking this stuff . Im wicked busy with work so i have very little time to figure stuff out . need info from people who have done this stuff and who have first hand knowledge 1. I have vacume wipers , not sure if they work ? when you guys turn on your wipers do they stay on or do you turn it every time you want them to clear the rain off the glass? 2. wiring under dash for wipers , how many wires come out the back of the switch ?? and where do they go ? 3 . i want to put lowering blocks in the back 2 inch , what shock to use after put in the blocks, so that i get use out of the shocks? do the blocks effect the travel of the shock . 4. need to rebuild carb, its a stock carb on my inline 6 , how much and where do i get a rebuild kit . 5 what hard ware do you use on the brake pedal to attach to the arm behind toe board , lockwasher is required right ? , i put a bolt but i get wobble from all angles? 6. Does the stock heating system hold up on cold days ??? anyone using the mini heat and defrost system out there ? if so how long was install . 7. brake lights stay on sometime when car is off ? where do i adjust this. wtf 8 . Need a muffler!, stock motor , something mellow , not to loud due to the pigs that follow me around . Thank you , i know hambers will make me proud , really thank you !
mini heater took about 4 hr with adding outlets to SBC how do you have wires to turn on a vacume wiper????, it will go steady as long as you decelerate to give vacume, run some marvel oil into motor and move motor by hand to get sludge and greas loose and seal so it works spend $200 and buy set of newport enginering wipers, if the cables are good then it should work then!! the brake light is a flipper switch on the brake petal, does it return completely?? you proabbly have a petal problem being it is floopy, connection has serated edges to hold in place, is arm worn loose in master cyl,????? better find a old guy to have this unit checked for safety, you could kill someone for the condition that it sounds in, there are no dual safety brakes on these!!! the shocks would proabbly be sold by some vender who sells lowering kits or they will have some info' they will have to be shorter, also next you will be crashing into the frame, I know, just my shocks mostly bottom out, and they are shorter, welcome to modified cars go to the parts house and get a carb kit proabbly 20 to $30 for this now days glass pack will proabbly do alright unless you play LeMons in front of the heet!!
Not to be a smart ass but the brake light switch is on the out side of the toe board, not inside the car, behind the firewall support, the brake pedal hits the arm when you hit the brakes. Its real hard to see unless you get underneat the car and look up at the toe board, then bent the arn accordingly, but im guessing the spring in it is shot so it doesent return all the time, the underneath placement gets them all full of road gook, just try to clarify this as i didnt see mine till i took the fenders off.
The shocks don't need to be shorter. It's the rear that is raised higher towards the floor of the car not the shock mounts. They're still in the same place they were before the lowering blocks went in. Use the same shocks. If you have something hitting when you hit a bump it's the pumpkin hitting the trunk floor.
Also, you may want to consider converting to a 2bbl Holley/Weber carb from Langdon's Stovebolt, check out http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/acartpro/category.asp?catcode=48
If you're in that big if a hurry, and money is tight, scrap the lowering blacks!!! You have to buy narrow blocks FOR that car, pepboys does not carry them. National Chevy Association has EVERYTHING you need. And they'll help you out with questions. I got everything from them.
The stock "big" heater with everything hooked up right will run you out of the car. Slip a 1'' piece of vacuum hose over the stoplight switch arm. One glasspack on a Chevy 6 can't get you in trouble unless you drive dumb. If your '54 has been 12 volted by now, '55-'57 Chev electric wiper motor fits as is.
got almost everything together , brakes done ! pedals were lose due to incorrect bolts that we in there , bent an exaust , got and old thrusher muffler , for it, bench seat mounted , just waiting on wiper motor ! and im game ,. thanks guys , still need to figure out the heat
