looking for a 12V wiring harness for my 54 belair with a 350 sbc and using the orignal steering column or if anyone knows how to make one please let me know thanks! Bill Joyal
You can use just about any universal harness for your car. The stock signal switch will work with the 12 volt system. The wire's are actually heavier due to the amp draw of the 6 volt system, so they will handle the conversion fine as will the signal switch itself. In fact, the ignition switch will work too.. I used a universal EZ kit in my 53 with the stock signal and ign switch. Works just fine. Tony
you dont have to change it if its in good condition..nothing wrong with 12 volts thru the original wire harness, as long as its ok.
Like Tony said you can use any kit and you should only need a 12 circuit kit...don't let them sell ya more than ya need no matter where you go. EZ, Painless and Rebels are all good. I used Hot Rod Wires here in Garland because they are local and have a good support line 7 days a week. Good Luck
I'll add a little more... I have used the EZ kit's ina few car's as i noted above with my 53, along with Ron Francis, and painless, but i did buy a Rebel for my current project. I havn't installed it, but it look's like a nice quality harness and it was in my opinion, a very good price too.. If you do go aftermarket and not run the 6 volt stuff already there, contact Glenn on here for a kit.. He's great to deal with and will hook you up with exactly what you need, nothing else just like Big Tony mentioned...... Ok, now i'll leave Tony
