Friday before Labor Day weekend my son and I went up to our old farm in northern Michigan. .... I wanted to pull a few pieces of a '54 Crestline... The car is about 200 miles north of where I live and we hope to be heading back up there... to pull a few more pieces off the car while there. Here's a few pics...: While up there we also had a chance to do a little "pickin' at an old farm dump that was there when we bought the place in '62. I remembered seeing a few pieces from when I was a kid so - well here's the link to the story on the main board: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509186 So after a day of adventure we got loaded up (it sure was nice to have a friend with a bucket loader!) and headed for home, but not without a stop at the A&W drive-in, in Standish
Wowza, worthwhile day! I'm interested in the dash insert and the speedo head. Does the dash insert look saveable, and do you know if the speedo works?
re: (Custom_Crestline) Wowza, worthwhile day! I'm interested in the dash insert and the speedo head. Does the dash insert look saveable, and do you know if the speedo works? I don't know if the speedo works, the car's been sitting since the early 70s so ***ume the worst. I didn't look closely at the insert but at a glance it didn't look too bad; my guess is it's not show quality but would clean up & be okay for a driver. I want to pull the complete dashboard out of the car sometime soon. Hunting season is Nov 15th and I hope to get up there before that time, I'll try & pull the dashboard while there. After I pull it I'll post some more pics on this thread and we'll go from there.
re: (54HotRod) How much for the hood and hinges? I'll take a few better pics and you can take a look at them & see what you think? They have some minor rust issues but shouldn't be to tough to repair. I'm in Michigan and if you're in Cali the shipping $$ might be a bit steep especially for the hood. But if you know someone to relay them out? I hadn't really thought too much about the $$ for those pieces, but I'm into trading for some stuff. Kinda looking for a few pieces: an older SBF bell housing a good T5 to match (both to go behind a '72 Windsor) a good 312 crankshaft & matching connecting rods a later Yblock 4bbl intake (ECZ-B) a pair of good/rebuildable Yblock big valve heads (ECZ-G)
I don't have anything to trade except an '84 351C water pump, but it doesn't have the block to water pump seal. Maybe right now the hood is not a great idea for me since you are right about shipping and I'm not sure if I can get someone to bring it back for me. I do still want the hinges since I have a F100 hinge on my Ford from the last guy that owned the car.
re: (52plymouth) I'd be interested in the power steering stuff I will let you know what P/S stuff is left when I pull the stuff off. The pump was already gone but that small bracket and special nut/bolt that goes into the water pump was still there. Pulley(s)? I think they're still on the engine & if so, will remove them too. When I roll it on its side next time up there I'll see what is still underneath, I think it's all still intact but condition is unkown. If anything specific that you know of & might want, let me know.
re: (strayca631) Are the small stainless trim pieces on the b-pillars intact? "B-pillar" = between front & rear doors? I'll check next time up there and will let you know. Ron
I'll only need the upper ones (below the window), I'll also need the little piece at the left bottom of my rear window trim...

Ron Yesterday (7 Sept) 02:17 PM 1hot1954 If strayca631 doesnt need both I would take on of the trim pieces if available. Today (8 Sept) 05:11 AM strayca631 I'll only need the upper ones (below the window), I'll also need the little piece at the left bottom of my rear window trim... Okay, I'll pull all the stainless trim off the car that I can; I'll mark it with location and Ford Part #, and we'll go from there. I'll take before & after removal pictures if possible. As said earlier, it's gonna be a month or so before I get back to the car but I'll notify you all when I get it. Ron
Thanks Ron, I'll take a walk around my car this weekend, to see what else is missing. Not a lot of these cars here in Norway, I've been lucky and found some of the missing parts, but there are still som holes...
re: (red baron) headliner bows? and interior dome lights? maybe? Not sure if they're still there, I'll check when I get back to the car.
Raceron, if its not already spoken for I'd be interested in the auxillary pulley on the front of the crank - I've adapted a powersteer box into Michelles ranchwagon so that would be great for running a powersteer pump ... Rod .
UPDATE - Well I'd planned to make a trip up north before the snow flies to retrieve parts off the '54 but work - the kind that pays - keeps getting in the way. Ended up TDY out to a little PA town Glen Rock this week and possibly several more times within the next few weeks or months. My new "project" for Uncle: ...so I'm not sure about having any free weekends between now and Christmas. But I kept the 'want list' so if I make it up there I'll keep you posted. It won't be getting s****ped at least until spring and after I've removed any usable pieces off it.
Ron, I'm looking for the two pieces that go under the grille on both front fenders. They bolt to the front of the fender and extend from the grille to the gravel pan. Think you have such?
re:the two pieces that go under the grille on both front fenders. . . Sorry, except for the hood, the entire front clip is already gone. Ron
Since you were over in the little Glen Rock , Pa. , I use to work over there 20+ years ago ! I only live about 25 mins from there up off rt 30 north of Hanover in a even smaller town called Abbottstown ! If you ever get over this way again , let me know and you can always stop by to say Hi and see all the cars I am working on . I always have some cold ones in the garage too Small world ! Jim
sounds like a plan Jim. Not sure of schedules but our team may be rotating our travel out there and will stay for a month or so at a time. If so, I'll drive so will have lots of room for parts. . . I didn't know you were that close but we were on a tight schedule this time so I didn't have much free time. I haven't been out there lately, we had some work up at New ***berland Depot shortly after the 3 Mile Island incident so it's been a few years.
