I'm finally starting to work on a 54 Desoto Hemi Marine engine that i scored some years back. The first thing i want to do is remove the Algon timing cover but thats held in by the crank flange that the harmonic balancer bolts to. It appears to be a press fit judging by the keyway but I gave it some yanks with a slide hammer to no avail. Thought I'd better ask the pro's before i do any damage seeing as how most my experience is with small blocks. I'm in un chartered ground here.

You will need to use a harmonic balancer puller.

What Tom said. On rare occasions I have had to resort to the hyd press.
