Nothing wrong with a 223, that's what's in my '54 customline and runs great. Was toying with the idear of putting in a y-block down the road(still might) but after getting the setting-too-long bugs worked out it has a lot of zip........and that's with a 3-speed. Check out the 223 FORD hop up thread in the Inline motors social group.

There are some decent Hop ups you can get for them plus they really sound great .
Matter a fact , we all know where you can find a really sweet set up right here in the group . solo 999 is selling his so you need to get in contact with him and see what you can work out .
He has a post on the group a couple down from yours !

Hey rebel, I'm actually selling everything you need. I have a 54 with a 6 cylinder, 3sp with OD. It's my daily driver and runs amazing. You can cruise 79-75 all day on the freeway. If you're interested your more than welcome to come take my car for a drive. You can take everything even the exhaust and bolt it right in. My friend is giving me a 302 so I was thinking about doing a swap myself. Let me know!

You can also check out my post on here and watch the video I made of my car. You can see the motor and close to the end you can hear it run. The thread is call what's my motor worth or something like that.

    Best regards
    George

Nothing wrong with the 223 at all, they're a nice little motor.

The 223's are womderful, reliable engines. I drove one for years. Today, if I wanted to build a car with a six, it would start as a 300 truck six with a hot cam and a turbo and keep the factory EFI. It would scare the wheels off all but the fastest super cars.

like the slant 6, the ford 300 6 was too good of a motor. way too reliable, even when abused.
