Hi, The driver side hood hinge arm sheared, look like metal fatigue. I'm trying to figure what caused it to fail? I contacted a person listed in the Hemmings motor magazine that claims to rebuild Ford / Mercury hood hinges. I've located a replacement arm, in order to rebuild the hinges this person wants the hinges removed from the air dam, he only wants the hinges. I've spoke to another person who said he didn't know if it was possible to do this without messing up the air dam. I would appreciate any input anyone who's replaced these or rebuilt them in the past. I did read a section in the service manual but it only addressed removing the hinge & dam from the fender not actually removing and replacing the hinge from the air dam. Thanks Mario
They're held in with the rivet either way the air dam has to come off to do a repair.it broke because its a ****py design to open the Hood on them you have to pull out while you lift up most people don't do that so they tweak.I have to repair my buddy's if I can locate the right rivet ill let you know.
