Getting back into building a car and could use a little advise. I need to separate the 54 Merc body from the frame. I've got new inner and outer rocker panels that I need to put in first, then remove the doors. Do I need to remove the windshield and rear window? I do all the work alone and not sure if I can get them out without breaking them. On the other hand I don't want them breaking if the body flexes. 54Merc1.jpg 54Merc2.jpg The plan is to make it into a taildragger. Satin black paint, wide whites, etc.
Just take your time and cut out the window seals. I took the back window out of my shoebox by myself and it wasn't a big deal. No different than your car. Just take your time and be careful.
Hey, No need to remove the front and back gl*** to weld in the rockers at this time! I'd cross brace the B pillars with box tubing, next tie these to the A pillars and cross brace the A pillars as well. This will effectly build a frame of the interior, and if done well will prevent any flexing of the body shell. Rather than cut the rockers and floor sections with the shell removed from the frame, I'd replace the inner and then the outer rockers, then the floor sections on each side. This will help you keep everything in alignment during the cutting and welding nessary for repair. " Meanwhyle, back aboard The Tainted Pork"
