Hey guys I am finally the proud owner of a 1954 Mercury Coe I'm just collecting the parts to get it underway I'm going to build a deck truck car hauler. I just found a 2004 Chevy 2500HD crewcab long box 4x4 and I was wondering if anyone has done a swap like this or if you guys had any links to other builds that have used these modern ch***is.

    thanks Ben

Hey Ben, it was nice meeting you(twice). Are you thinking of using the 4x4 with the transfer case etc? My first choice would be a p30 frame from a parcel van. They come in longer wheelbases and the steering boxes are perfect for cabovers. Cost is allways a factor. keep us posted on any progress. greg

lol yeah it was Greg your place is hard to stay away from you have some sweet toys there! The great part about this 2004 2500hd 4x4 crew cab is that it is a roll over but the ch***is is fine the body is mangled tho also it's missing it's 6.0L gas engine and I have a spare one to drop right into it(Oh yeah and it's FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE haul it out my yard deal lol). So thats one of the huge reasons I'm leaning towards it/ down the road might be looking at swapping in a duramax. Yes I'm thinking of keeping it 4x4 just because of the area I live in it will be more practical for getting into the places I need to....p.s. I live WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up North in the Yukon in Whitehorse City, so with our winters and I will be using it as a sled hauler and really everything.....soo I'm thinking about leaving the engine in the front so I can keep my deck height fairly low and flat not like a ramp truck.

P.S. how do I post pics here and change my av image too?

OK, so I looked into using a late model ch***is, now, I have a Chevy COE so things are going to be different. If I'm not mistaken the wheel track is like 68 inches? also keeping the engine in the stock location is to far forward for the Chevy. If you use the stock truck intake it's gonna take a ton of room in the cab. I will be using the modern drive train but it will be mid-mounted. Good luck and keep us posted on progress with picks.

Free is a great price! I think there is a how to on posting pictures, hope this doesn;t confuse you as i'm a computer rookie but you have to have a host site such as flickr etc- right click on the picture you want and then click properties. a window will open and you hi-lite the picture ID then copy and OK. Go back to your post and when ready click the picture icon, right click hi-lited blue part and hit paste.

the old Chevy 6.5L turbo diesel was having troubles on just rolling prairie hills so seeings as I had mountains to cross I decided to chop it up and cut it down to just the cab..if you look on the back trailer you'll see the ****** the front diff the frame rails rims tires and rear diff...that shed a lot of weight

thanks I'm just lining up a 88 chevy one ton crew cab long box then stripping it down to the frame and setting the cab on and getting it nice and low...I was wondering without having the airbag setup installed does anyone know if there a height I can weld my body mounts at so the body is an inch from touching when laid out? The engine will be mounted behind the cab and it will be a deck truck car hauler

also I'm still unsure about the steering I wanna drive this bad boy all the time and I'm a big boy so my worry is mounting the column straight up and down might kill the ease of getting in and out of the truck

love to see some links to some layed out setups or the reasons for doing them a certain way.

    thanks guys
