    Hey All,
Did a couple of searches and couldn't find any results. Will 54 mercury taillight housings bolt up to a 53 fender? Are the rear bumpers the same on both as well? I like the look of the 54 tail lights better than the 53. I have found a 53 that I may purchase and would like to know the extent of fab ahead if any. Thanks in advance.

  2. They look totally different, as does the fender area where they fit. But panel fab work could make it happen.

Easiest thing to do would be find a rusty 54 and cut the tail light section out of it and weld it onto the 53.

My Dad put '54 Merc tail lights on a '52 Merc in the early 50's. I think I have an old pic in a photo album somewhere.

So after a bit more research i have found the source of confusion for me. The Car I am looking at is a 53 woody wagon. Apparently the 54 wagon has a detachable 54 tail light housing so they didnt have to make a whole new rear fender panel for the 54 given that the production numbers must not have justified a whole new rear quarter panel.

The 1954 Mercury had the same quarter panel as a 1953 Mercury ! The Metal extension was welded and leaded to the quarter panel !

Boy that wagon must be rare, I can't ever remember seeing one, and I'm over 70.

Thanks for the info I figured that it had to be something to that effect. just saw that the wagons were one way and the coupes and sedans were all smoothed out.
