Hey everybody, I found a rebuilt 292 GM motor and I was wondering if I could swap it straight out for my 239. will the tranny mount up? has anyone done this? is there any motors that will be a direct swap? thanks mark
my 268 1950 poncho I8 is a direct bolt in, and a steal at only 250 for it and its hydramatic! the good side of using an inliner in an inliner car is the easy exhaust options. no steering box clearance issues is a very good thing.
Why not 350/350 combo?? Yeah just kiddin'. I dont know about the sixes interchangin', look at the mounts and eyeball it. Throw a nailhead in it, That would look good.
I have a 53 Pontiac 2DR HT with the inline 8 and a 364 Nailhead I hope to put in it. Only thing that concerns me is that the nailhead doesn't have much in the width department and theres boatloads of room under my hood. That and the fact that I'll probably have to cut 5 coils off the springs when that fabulous EVERYTHING IS CAST IRON motor and trans comes out. What I'd really like to do is swap out my grossly underpowered I8 with an I8 Packard Engine that has about 80 more H.P and 100 more cubes Oh yeah, need parts for that 54 ? I have some stuff
Im kinda looking into the same options you are right now for my 57. I want to use the 347 but its going to take some time to get the cash to build it right.Just wanting something to use for now. Im not sure if our set ups the same but keep me posted in what you come up with, please
Maybe one of you HAMBers can help this guy, he's lookin' for a 239 exhaust manifold. He has a nice Edmunds dual intake on his '54 and he needs an exhaust manifold so he can split it and run duals. Click here: Looking for a 239 manifold.
Sorry for the hijack, but Chandler - there are people giving away 350 Pontiacs w/ TH350s that would sit in your 57 easily. Ask around or go to Classical Pontiac and Performance Years.
Keep a '60 or older engine in it or else you'll be in for a lot of added work and expense. I'm betting that 'free' 350 will cost you more to install than just rebuilding the original 347. There's more to it than just fabbing up some mounts for the 350 engine/trans. Thread of interest. Read the post by Bigcheese327.
How about an early 303 Olds or 331 Caddy? Pontiac, Olds & Caddy frames from that era would be similar but you would probably have to do some fabricating. If you check an old Hollander, it has a procedure for putting an Olds motor in 49-54 Pontiacs...Tom
