I removed my front drums and wheel bearings and such, all the way back to the backing plate to spin and clean up. Problem being, I am not sure what order everything goes back on and my "manual" doesn't have a blown up version, any hints??? THX dr
Suggestion #1 only ever take one side apart at a time so you have the other side for reference. #2 take a digi pic if you have a digicamera. #3 better, draw a detailed picture of where everything goes on the brake ar any assembly then you will have studied all the parts, just to make the drawing, and will be familiar with it. Plus, you may end up with some "suitable for framing" artwork by the time you do the whole car that way. Someone posted a pic of a Chevy brake on another thread on here yesterday. It's gonna be at least similar if not the same setup.
Thanks doc, I know I should have documented the tear down but I was in a rush so my bad...the pics were from a rear brake assembly, I need to figure out the bearings and such and what order they all go in. ANyone know a site with an illustration?
I'm doing the brakes on my Chevy (52) right now and the assembly order is: Backing plate to spindle, oil slinger/catcher (thin metal disc with a lip around it, goes over spindle and sits between backing plate and inner bearing race), inner bearing race, now spindle is ready for brake drum with bearings to be installed. Brake drum assy goes like this: drive in new inner and outer bearing cups, install inner bearing, then drive in new hub oil seal (oh yeah pack bearings before install), then install outer bearing, slip the whole nine yards over spindle, install outer bearing race, washer and nut and adjust. Hope you r car is similar or that this helps.... Ted
how many pieces do you have, most cars go (from spindle out), backing plate to spindle, grease seal, inner bearing/race, outer bearing/race, large washer, nut (castle), cotter pin, dust cap. the bearings, grease seal go in the hub and hand tighten the bolt (spin drum at the same time as tightening the nut), make it a little snug.
