Getting ready to sell my 54 customline and noticed I have a leak on the rear right side of the axle. Anyone want to point me in the right direction on this so I can get the for sale sign on this thing. Hate to sell it but I cant take care of it any longer without a drive way garage or time to mess with it. Just totaled out my motorcycle a few weeks ago and looking to sell it so I can buy a new bike.

Motorcycle totaled out and you want to buy a new bike? Maybe it's a message to fix the Ford and be safer on 4 wheels, something to ponder.

If you have brakes and wheel cylinder isnt leaking needs an axle seal, are you getting any noise or excessive heat coming from it most of the time the wheel bearing goes and wipes out the seal but could be just the seal, didnt over fill ?

    Probably an axle seal.

If i rememebr from my car right, the seal is actually the bearing on the end of the axle. When I took mine apart to replace the bearings i figured i would find a seal to replace too. Once i had the axles out there was only a pressed on bearing which to my knowledge doubles as a seal. I may be wrong, but this is how mine was. The bearings were not cheap either!!!

All 50's cars that I have ever worked on has an oil seal. Bearings are usually sealed units. The Shop Manual specifically mentions oil seals in the rear axle.

Well on my particular car, I pulled the axles out and on each end all that was there were bearings. I installed new ones, and have not had a drip of fluid out of them in the 6000 miles i have put on. Not saying im right and you are wrong, just saying in my case this is how it was.
