Hambers what's going on!!! It's been a few months so I thought I would update those of you who are interested in the progress on my "54 Suburban. First picture is the day I got it about 6 months ago. Second picture is with the new wheels. Third pic is of it currently as of 1 week ago. - New dropped springs all the way around - 3" dropped front axle - New Saginaw 4spd - Patricks shift kit - new clutch - new driveshaft - new rearend with 3.38 gears. - "C" notched front and rear I'm super stoked! It moves real good down the freeway and it rides incredible. Big Dirty
Well with the suspension being squared away I focused on speed equipment. First I bought a Cyclone 2X1 intake then I got addicted to 235 speed equipment and bought a D&S intake and a McGurk both of which were 2X1's as well. Next, I picked up some original Fentons. They need a little love but should sound great. After buying all these items I came to the realization that I like the way the 235 runs now, so I'm not going to dick with it other than the Fentons. Gas is way to expense for 2X1's in my opinion right now and I highly doubt the addition of one carb is going to make it perform much different. thanks for the compliment, I really love this thing. Dirty
love the stance. I'd like my panel to have the same ride height. Mind sharind what springs you used and where you got them?
Dirty - the 235 responds to dual carbs very well ! It's probably the single best small modification on a mild street engine. With 51 or 52 main jets in a pair of Rochester Bs & dual pipes you should be able to get mid 20s MPG with that axle ratio.
Revhead- I'll find out the brand of the spring packs but all they are is dearched and reversed eyed. 302GMC- Thanks for the insight. I just felt with no progressive linkage it would just be dumping fuel into the carbs and really wouldn't be doing much for the performance aspect. After running 3X2's on my '31 coupe I became somewhat leary of multi carb setups. Dirty
I love that thing, Dirty-- Looks so good with the stance and the wheel/ tire combo. So glad you nabbed it. We're gonna have a blast rolling to Paso Maria this year. I plan on getting some shade in your Burb with beverage in hand.
Wow...great stance! I really like it. I almost didn't click on this thread because I get so used to seeing AD trucks bagged with the running boards sitting on the ground. I was happily surprised. Keep us posted on this one. Thanks, Neal
Thanks Neal much appreciated. I like bagged trucks and Suburbans but I wanted to do it like it might have been done in the mid to late 50's. I wanted it to like a tow/ push vehicle you might see out at the lakes or drag strip.
Nice truck! Any shots of the interior On my 235, the mileage went up with the addition of an Edelbrock intake and two carbs... go figure. Brian
Big Dirty, how much do you figure you could have lowered your 'Burb without the C notches (and without bottoming on the axles constantly)? Or if you prefer, how deep are your C notches?
congrats man, the Burb looks killer. You will be glad to know that your old coupe is back on the road and scary fast. We are sorting out a few things and will be taking our first long haul this weekend. Talk to you soon, Erik
Erik, you gotta post some pics man!!!! Congrats on getting it back on the road. I hope it brings you some really good times. Dirty
Nexxussian, with the 3" dropped axle, de-arched and reverse eye spring I'm figuring the front has been lowered approx. 6" (I know, half a foot!!!!). With that being said, it left about 3" of room between the spring and the front frame rails. Wanting to use the stock style bump stops that would have left zero travel, therefore the frame was notched approx. 3", which basically left about 3" of travel. It turned out super clean, rides better than stock and travel isn't an issue. Rear suspension is a similar senario. Shorter spring shackles, de-arched reversed eye spring and 2" lowering blocks. Also wanted adequate room for the rear bump stops so the same style "C" notch was performed. Hope this helps. If you want pics let me know and I'll crawl under it and snap a few. Thanks for all the compliments guys, Dirty
Without the notch, you can see how close the stock bump-stop would have been to the bottom of the frame rail. Dirty
man that is one clean looking Burb. really like the color and the wheels, the stance makes all the difference too. down where you want it, or gonna go a bit lower? i would love to see that thing laying on the running boards.
