My wife wants a new to her truck. We have been looking at 55-57 Chevy trucks. Here is what I need to or would like to know. What is the differents in all the trucks? 3100. 3200, Apache, Fleetside and I know what a Cameo is. Just wondering, there are a lot of them out there. Thanks
there are no Apaches or Fleetsides for those years. A Cameo has a flush side fiberglass bed and were produced from 55 to 58. Check out these websites below http://www.stovebolt.com/ http://chevytrucks.org/ Tons of parts are available for these trucks from the Truck shop, Brothers, Jim Carter, plus many other places. Also 3100 is half ton, 3200 is 3/4 ton.
http://stovebolt.com/ That would be a good starting place. My dad drove a '59 Apache Fleetside -- I drove a 56 GMC stepside. Be careful -- in the middle of the '55 year they switched from the "Advanced Design" to the new design so you'll often see notes like '55 (Second series) or '55(old style). Happy reading!
I forgot to mention about that. There were two different style Chevy trucks in 55. The late model 55 is also known as a "Taskmaster"
i'm not here to give you any advice, cause i've never had one of these trucks. what i can say, though, is that i think that in these 3 years chevrolet built the best looking trucks that ever rolled off of their assembly lines. i think you're making a wise choice. if i had the ca$h and was looking for a driver pu that's definitely where i'd be looking.
3100 is a half ton short bed, 3200 is a half ton long bed, 3600 is a 3/4 ton, 3800 is one ton. 55-59 trucks are "Task Force" trucks.
Thanks, I think they just look tough. She wants the single headlights, I kind of like the duels. We'll see what she finds. Thanks for the link.
I have dealt with a lot of suppliers over the years ....I would pass on Jim Carter ........ .[/QUOTE] Tons of parts are available for these trucks from the Truck shop, Brothers, Jim Carter, plus many other places.
id love to find of those trucks i had aline on a 57 for 500 with no bed but my brother in law who knew where it was and told me about wouldnt take me to talk to the owner it was in missouri where he lives
They are my favorite year trucks. Lots of replacement and used parts available. Good luck and keep the wife happy. Later, Dick
Those trucks are ugly, dont waste your time... Hahaha! I have bought parts from Arrowhead Truck Parts, and would recommend them to anyone. http://www.arrowheadparts.com/QCart/?p=productsList
I'm finding alot of these parts floating around on craiglist as well. aside from the width of the bed wood boards the beds/rear fenders are the same from '55-'66. I happen to have a '63 -'66 bed on my '59
