I am at the huge Fords Show in Carsile Pa.
Here is my question , I ran across a disc brake conversion for a 55/56 Ford . It's a 1983 Crown Vic . Has anyone done this and will it work ? I can get the spindles , calibers dirt cheap for $125 !
I need to know if this has been done tonight so I can snag them up early tomorrow morning .
Thanks everyone for all the help and support for everything that is happening here in the past month !

    Jim,

Aren't those front steer? If so, the ackerman geometry won't be right if you turn them around backwards.

wont work. got a pair hanging in my garage i already had on my car to try them. the calipers hit the sway bar when mounted . ball joints were the right size though.

Mark , didn't have time to shop yet really . I will shop tomorrow . The wife will be with me so she can watch the spaces while I shop . I hope to find them ! You should have stopped by and introduced yourself ! Show is WAY DOWN and people just are spending like they usually do . There were a good bit of vendor spaces still not sole too . They always sell out on vendor space but I guess since the weather is Beautiful , I guess that means no spenders . I have sold fairly well and made enough $$$ to pay for my spaces , gas and enough to finish getting the engine and trans in and buy a drive shaft and wiring harness . So I am happy with that . I am very tired and have to get up at 5:30 am !

Can I infer from this that the 1983 Crown Vic ball joints will work on my '55 Merc?

Well the show is over for another year . Attendance was way down and many empty vendor spaces ! Just shows how bad things are when the place sell out ever year for this huge show . Today I had my wife with me and was busy till about 2 pm so I got to go look for the Granada spindles Mark to me about . Well after 1.5 hours of looking I found them ! I knew the guy selling them and he has a couple salvage yards he stripe cars in and has been pulling theses older Ford parts for years . He is down south someplace and won't tell me where he lives . Anyway They weren't the best shape as the rotors were rusted fast to the calipers and I did know how good the inside of the spindles were . I would say they were sitting one the ground for many years . So I p***ed them up . Yes you heard me right ! I p***ed up a set of Granada spindles complete with with everything . All I saw was a set of spindles that I might be able to gl*** bead them up and buy everything else . I had plenty of money from the show to buy them and still have the money to finish my 55 Fairlane with the 302 & C4 and get a drive shaft then finish the body work and get the car wiring harness and get the car in primmer . I looked at it this way , if I got the spindles I will have to spend more $$$ to get them working and that was money I needed to enjoy my car and finish it .
I dis get a few pictures and will post some so you all can get an idea on how big this show really is . When I got my change to shop today , about 3 pm it started raining so all the cars left and went home . I rained pretty good for over 1.5 hours as we sat under the tent keeping dry . We got the parts put away and they were safe but in plastic tubs so they say until the rain stopped . So there was no way to get the car pictures I wanted to get so you can see some of the very fine Fords that show up there . I did get a few yesterday after I packed it up for the day. Anyway we are getting storms after storms and I an dead beat to the world ! :(
I am going to get some really good sleep tonight IF the storms let up ! I will post some picture when I get the hang of it in a couple days I hope !
Now off to bed ! :D

You can buy brand new repop Granada spindles so why pay a bunch of money for rusty old ****?

  12. Where would I get the "re-pops"?

  13. Does anyone know if you can buy the caliper brackets? I think you have to get the originals.
