I have a 56 Mercury and for some reason some one cut off the arm that stick out at the bottom of the column. The piece that the shifter linkage connects to. I am going to fabricate a new one but what I need from you guys is the measurements for the arm. how long, how wide. distance from the base to the center of the mounting hole, and the diameter of the mounting hole.

Honestly I have no idea. But if it was me, I'd hunt down a similar one, and ask if you can take the measuremets from that. Or find a replacement that hasn't been cut up.
    Good Luck.

Being it was "cut off",.you can weld a new arm to the "base" of the piece that's still in the column....As i recall, those were the same length. if that's not doable, Someone may have a complete column for sale in Hemmings, or similar sources.

Surly someone with an automatic 55-56 Ford/Mercury can go out to thier car and take a couple of quick measurements for a fellow hamber.

Go to the 1952-56 car group under community links. Someone there will be glad to give you that info.

Is a 56 ford fairlane column the same? I've got one, not going to use that part. Pm me if interested.

  10. This is the column from my 56 Fairlane. Will this get it? I don't have any way to measure the angle on the top of the arm.

From the next post I see the Ford is totally different from the Merc.
