just picked up a 55 buick special it had the 264 but was pulled, it has the dynaflow trans still and i was wondering if a 57 401 would fit my trans? please help
No only 264 and 322 to 1956 bolt up. I think the 401 and Dynaflow up to 63 might bolt in and hook to torque ball on the 55.
A '59-'63 401 from a Dynaflow car will bolt up, but you have to swap the bellhousing from the later trans and maybe someother parts. Tom Telesco has done this swap before and can give you the details. Here is his contact info: Tom Telesco C/O Cl***ic & Muscle Automotive 465 Glenbrook Rd. No such animal as a 57 401... but the 364 shares the same bellhousing as the 401,425. Just make sure it was a Dynaflow equipped 401. The crank is different on the 64-66's.
