I'm trying to find a picture of the frame dimensions for a 55 Chev convertible. Only one I can find online is too hard to read.

Scott, my '55 HT is on the lift. Not a 'vert, but I'm happy to measure if that can help.

Thanks. I'll let you know. I'm actually working on a 56 Olds convertible. I don't have a convertible frame, but it has an X member that appears to be the same as the Chevy X member. I see I can buy the X member as an aftermarket. Just trying to get an idea if the X members are the same so I could splice one into my hardtop frame. I know the Olds already has an X member, but I've been told the convertible X member is a much heavier gauge steel.

looks like the Chevy X is a few inches short for an Olds

That's what I'm thinking too. I'd love to physically lay eyes on a convertible frame to see just how much heavier gauge it is. Is it in the actual X member or just the steel plate under the center of the X. I know that plate is at least 1/2"-5/8". I may be able to get away with just boxing things.

I had a 56 98 coupe as well and from memory the whole Starfire X member was thicker. I would guess twice as thick as the coupe X member.

Thanks again. I still can't find a ch***is so I'm going to have to improvise. When I saw they made an X member for the Chevy convertible I was hopeful, but it's not looking like it will work. Perseverance. I will fully box and gusset the heck out of the hardtop frame. Might be stronger than the original frame by the time I'm done.

Would you happen to have a diagram for a 53 Olds convertible? I found one of those but not sure how close they are.

I will look when I get to the shop this morning. I do remember that the earliest Tru-Way book I have covers the 46-53 models, and then starting in 54, the books only covered one year. So, the early book may be limited in what particular models it covers. I will post a pic if one is in there.

There’s no mention of a convertible on these drawings 794503D7-C738-4584-B470-34118B4C2C05.jpeg 1BD94625-2B60-4A99-B5A5-3C00EDEAB622.jpeg
