Hi all, Just after a few ideas on a cool lookin grille for my chev,as you can see i already was lucky enough to find a set of 11 De soto teeth here in Australia and i think it looks awsome but i am still having trouble getting it to look right?, The car when complete will be nose in the air No front bumper cragar ss wheels pie crust cheaters on the rear gloss black with a traditional flame job etc. Any input would be appreciated

No desoto pan, in the process of modifying the stock pan to suit so far it works and fits well but when you put the two end teeth in seems to change the look.......its a challenge

  4. Like the idea, just looks a bit small and the grill gets lost to me - too much spare space. Good luck with the build!

I think that grill is a "Custom" car look. Yet you describe a "Gasser" style build with the Cheater Slicks, Nose in the air etc. The Flames might be the bridge to marry the to themes together?
Build it like you like it. Keep us posted. I like 55's & Flames too.
    Just my 2 cents

how bout if you spread the teeth apart a little so they take up more room side to side, and raise it up a bit so its centered in the original grille surround?

in that pic i have not placed the last two teeth (hense the gap) i agree that the whole assembly needs to be raised tho for sure. i Started making another grille that was loosely based on an early vette, Made from wood for concept then to cast up later?

I don't like mixing two themes. Either go with the grille change and a lowered stance for custom look or raised front, no grille/moon tank for a gasser/competition look. The car will look confused the way your headed.

  9. Not to be a Di**, but you asked. If you are going for a gasser look why would you worrry about a custom grill? If anyting would throw a moon tank in the opening and get some expanded metal with the little holes in it to fill the cavity. The Desoto thing works on a different level i.e. shaved, dropped, white walled kustom, but on a gasser not really. Just my .02

Nothing is going to look as good as the stock 55 grille.

Not digging the look at all. Gasser and custom grille just clash.

If you are going gasser style you dont need a grille at all, just the trim around the opening and a moon tank !

  14. i aggree with everyone else
if i had a 55 gasser style or streetfreak i would just run the outer stock grille bezel or MAYBE a chromed tube grille (more of an 70's vibe though)

that desoto grille would look better in my shoebox wanna sell? :D
