I met Bruce Cox, the owner of this car a CHRR this weekend. He was very nice and just loves these old cars. He is trying to identifiy/learn any and all history on this car. While taking to him, a gentleman walked up and gave him two pics of the car from 1970 when he owned it and it still had the same paint job, sans the flames. It appears this car was run as an altered even as far back as 1970 since the engine set back in the '70 photos was way more than the g***er rule of 10%. Any info please call Bruce at work (661)325-4848. He had his cell and work phone posted on the car, so I don't believe he will have a problem with me posting it. I suggested he get on the H.A.M.B. and join the fun! I'm sure he will as it is an invaluable source.
neet-o car. I've seen it a few times. just saw it this weekend. I wish he would show it with the hood closed so I can get a good picture.
Cool, In have a picture of it on a trailer at the Pomona swap meet in the 80's. I only have a proof sheet so If I ever bump into the negative I will print one and get it to him. It was cool seeing it on cruising the streets of Bakersfield Sat night with another Bad*** 55 and an equally bad*** Henry J. I love that 55, the word BEAST comes to mind!
Thanks Kev, any help is greatly appreciated. Bruce also owns the clean dark blue 55 and the guy with the Henry J works for them. Bruce says that the two guys who originally started "House of Colors" are the ones who originally built the car, subsequently the 55 wore lots of paint schemes early on. The guy who gave Bruce the two photos from 1970 also gave him the name and number of the surviving partner who built the car/House of Colors. Stayed tuned.
That car is wicked. I was standing by it on Saturday but never met the owner. I'm wondering what it would take to get it ready to make another 1/4mi p***. It sure aint the typical poser g***er.
Now that's the kind of story that makes the CHRR worth all the effort it takes to produce it. I wonder how many other similar chance meetings between old car owners and new owners went on that don't get reported?
He hopped it up at the Hamb Drags/Bakersfield and smoked the clutch out of it. He has since gone to a McCloud Streettwin. I think he plans on trying again next year. He said the tech guy told him, "man I don't even know how to tech this thing".
