I have a really wasted 55 2 door sedan shell , frame and floor nonexistant pretty well stripped clean, cant stand the thought of cuttin the roof off and throwin it away.I have been entertaining the idea of makin a looses "clone" of a 60's dirt tracker, but with lights and a horn, hahaha ,and drivin the thing on the street ,anyone got any pics old or new for some inspiration?????

Come on guys, surely someone has pictures of '55/'56 Chevy stock cars. There were thousands of them during that era, I didn't have enough money left over from my racing activities to afford a camera. Surely some of you gold chainers did. :D

That's exactly what I'm doin' with my '64 Ford. Lemme look through my files and I'll try to post some tri-5 Chevy stockers later tonight.

By the way, spendin' money on my race cars back in the day rather than pics is the primary reason I have very few of 'em...:(

  7. One of my buddy's, this is a '57 and pretty much as-raced and stripped and left. Think it ran at Chemung (near Elmira New York, where the Bodines hail from). It's prettier than the '57 Chevy hardtop racer he picked up, the rollbar in that car has the ugliest welds I have ever seen.. have pix of that here too if you want to see 'em.

Like everything else he has it's for sale for too much money, I don't know what his asking is on it but thought I'd mention that too.

I can show you some other stuff, but his '55 turnkey asphalt car is in the barn and has a bunch of crap on it so I can't get good pictures of it.

Have seen a '63 Ford fullsize that was raced, not too many of these things around anymore though. Hell, the one collection we were in there was a '54 Plymouth 4-door sedan with a full cage, big tires, and what was most likely the stock flathead 6 in it. Weird car -

Here is a poor picture of my 56. The only good thing about this pic is the checkered flag:p For you NASCAR guys that pic was taken at the dirt track that the Bodine family owned in Chemung NY.

Gosh while we're on the subject i'd like to see any 50's cars from back then that raced the local clay bullrings. There was one a while back I think it was a 55, its was in Panama City at the car craft show there( yes I know, car craft). I think it was featured in their magazine this was back in 99' I think. Anyway the thing had stock car wide five wheels sticking out through the cut out wheelwells, a full cage and hardly no glass. It had everything to make it legal like lights and such. But the kicker was the guy had driven it across country, it was car crafts cruise thing sorta like americruise and this was the last stop. It was so bitchen cause it looked like the guy just finished racing and drove it off the track, beat up ass body and all!

This one was in Nashville during a stop on the Hot Rod Power Tour 1999. It was driven cross country also.

  17. On the old HAMB, someone posted a link to a bunch of older racecars, some in junkyards, etc. Anyone remember what that link was? Or the one with the jalopy racer website?

  22. Long as we're sharing -

I'll save the '68 Dart as too new, but here's a couple others my one buddy has - a '53 Ford, still has a flattie with aluminum heads on it (and converted to center steering, too), and a '56 Ford.. came with a rear that was out of it. Also came with a blown 302 - blown up, that is. Ackerman or something was the guy's name, ran Middletown or someplace near there. I guess this one never handled that well from what they said.

I'll include the other '57 Chevy he has, also. Crooked hood was set on to cover up the power pack 283 that's still in it. Another Elmira area car. Lots of old shitty racecars from all around -

We passed up some others - a '57 Ford, several other 55-56's, a rough '57 Chevy 2dr, and one I kind of wanted - a '55 or '56 Pontiac, of all things. I threw in a '55 Ford 2dr just to show they sometimes cut down the doors on these on the right side, just like the coupes, and a shot of the Pontiac... a '56 by the looks, with the twin streaks. Real basic cars.

That picture was probably taken in 1965 or 66. My brother and I raced for a few years in the Southern Tier of New York. It seemed like everybody around there that was "into" cars raced on the local dirt tracks. There weren't any drag strips around so it was all we had. The only bad part was that we trashed a lot of nice 55,56 and 57 chevys. Seems like a shame looking back but at the time nobody really cared. They were just old cars.

There's a BUNCH of old stockers, mostly coupe bodied including some sitting in fields waiting to be resurrected on this site:

    http://grandpasracing.homestead.com/

But the site you might be thinkin' of was Jimmie's Old Time Racing Photos. Jim had more pics of the 'good old days' of stock car racing than anybody else. But fucking Tripod pulled his site for some lameass TOS violation....:( I scored a lot of pics from the OH-PA-WVA area from his site including this Late Model Mustang I bought from the dude in the pic in the mid '70s...:)
