It's getting better each time. Now, with the new clutch, the thing grabs, the tires hook... and the motor bogs. Still ran a string of 11.70's and 11.80's. The video is of the first 11 second pass at 11.90 There was NOBODY at the track, so I could run, get back in line... run again, and so on. We got there, bbq'd, ran the car, bs'd around... ran again, and quit an hour early... and STILL got 11 runs in! I made 5 runs in the 11's, and 6 in the low 12's. The 12 second runs happened at first, when I had 25lbs in the tires. The 60 foot times were in the 1.90's. A guy had told me the track was SHIT. So I figured I had the tires right, and it was just the track. WRONG! To launch the car, I rev the motor to 7400 against the chip, and side step the clutch! With the tires at 25lbs, it fish tailed to the 330 line! Hahahahaha!! What FUN! But the times weren't too impressive! (low 12's). So I let the pressure down to 15lbs. and tried it again. With the tires at 15psi, it bogged, but at least ran 11's. (The tires are ET Streets.) I think part of the problem is that my 1st gear ratio is too damned HIGH. It is a 2.19 1st gear. So, I need the 2.55 ratio, and it should pick up a BUNCH. That, and with the jetting squared at 76's in the little 660's, the plugs were black. Excuses, excuses... I know... oh, and the alternator is only putting out 12v... so, the battery is like 11v when I run it... probably why the plugs are black too... the MSD needs a full 13+v... Damn, I have my work cut out for me if I ever want to run 10's... but the little SBC is getting there! Sam. This run is before I got the line lock working... you can hear it bog. SBC, 4 Speed, Olds Rear... through the muffler, with street tires.
Now I am jealous. How do you find the line lock/manual combo works? I have installed one but am yet to wire it up so would be interested to hear your comments. P.
pretty impressive!! Hookin up IS the key! ever notice that the rice burners are running alot faster ET's but the speeds are the same as the old days? Thats because witht he front wheel drive there coming out real hard & not loosing traction. after ya tweek it you should be getting low 11's. Those last few tenths are so hard to gt rid of!!lol Great job. JimV
55 Chevy, 4 speed, high-winding small block and an open track. Doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for sharing.
Nice ! good to see you out there running it, I didn't see much of your car in the first video it must of ran like a raped ape.....lol
Paul, It works great once you figure it out! You almost have to have some water though, to get it going. I first wired it into a button with one of those stupid-ass'd coiled wires, and when I drove up to the staging lanes for the first time, the coil wrapped tight around the column and ripped the wires out of the button! Damn! So that one run on the video you'll see the burnout where I started out in 1st and shifted to second. Then we scrounged up a toggle switch, and wired it in. The first time I tried it, I set the line lock, let the clutch out with it in first, and tried to shift to second. That didn't work so well... so, on the next run, I pulled into the water box, blipped it to get out of the box to get water all on the tires, set the line lock, put it in 2nd gear, revved it up to about 4500 and let the clutch out. The results are the nice heater you see on the video. I did do ne burnout where I rolled through the water, got the tires wet, put it in third, let the clutch out at 5000 and smoked the crap out of the hides well past the starting line! What fun! But I need to practice a practical routine, so the above mentioned style is what I will do from now on. Sam.
Sam, I am going to wire mine up over the weekend and experiment. Hope for a similar effect from my Mickey T's! P.
Looking good.........still have a ways till my 55 hits the track.........finally got rear fenderwells cut out and slicks on yesterday.........
Hahahaha! If there's one thing I do good, that would be shifting a transmission! But this sucker is so tight, it doesn't want to come out of gear! My buddy Rodger suggested that I might not have the bellhousing index'd correctly. The first time it was just on the outer limits of the tolerences... and with this second motor (same machine on the line-bore) I did not check it... he says with the bronze pilot bushing... the input shaft will hang up on the crank and shift hard. Just another excuse, I know... Sam.
At least your on the track floggin it! Have fun, thats what its all about. Dont worry about what everybody thinks.
Try very hard not to do this to it..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2tk8X8tZok&mode=related&search=
