56gasser wanted to see some pix of the steering box so here it is. Yes the bracket people are asking about is the wheelie bar bracket. We did a bunch of little things this weekend that needed to get done but not much in way of visual progress - final welds, pulled engine out, cleaned, made templates, etc. Won't get much done this week - rain, lots of it!
That thing is lookin' good Vic--some day, I'm gonna get Kev to do my 56--but gotta find a cowl for parts.
Vic,its great to see some update pics on your cool 55.Been following this one closely,it's quite inspiring seeing how Kev transforms a 55 into a gasser, lots of neat ideas here that im sure that few of us will use on our projects.Have you got a color in mind? I see that its got a blue dash.Cant wait to see this one finished,no doubt it will end up being as cool as your willys.I hope that you're feeding Kev well, after all,he is a kiwi icon you know.
I admire the workmanship and the welds. Looks like a great deal of thought was put into building a sweet ride. The fiberglass front end is pretty trick the way it is set up. Thanks for all the great close up shots of just how you did everything because that gave me some good ideas. I would like to see more photo's has the project progress. Special thanks Jimbo
Hey Willie, nice 56! I didn't know you had another ride... My 55 is coming along slowly, sometime weeks go by before getting on it again. Vic
Thanks Kiwigasser for following NZ's hero's work. Yes, I feed him well, sometimes too well as he's now on a diet... Currently I'm planning on painting it semi gloss black with blue windows, hence the metalflake blue dash & window moldings. It'll have lettering like my Willys giving it the Gasser look. Vic Jimbo17: Yes, Kevin does some really nice welds, some of the best I've seen by hand. To be honest, not that much thought was put into this build. Kev just has natural ability & a great fabricator and does things as he goes along. Of course some things are built from pure experience like the frontend tilt, etc. Some people are just have an affinity to things and some are more challenged - I'm the more challenged . I will keep this post alive by giving periodic updates on the build. Vic
Some day I will be able to get at my 55 but until then I wil continue to study all of the build threads on the HAMB. This is one that I find myself watching. Goodluck on your progress and I can not wait o see the end results. J.Lockwood
Thanks for the kind words and glad you're enjoying this thread. As mentioned earlier, I'll keep posting things as we go along the way but sometimes I move pretty slow so please bear with me. Here's Happy (the QA inspector dog) keeping an eye on Kev to make sure he's doing things to specs - notice the intensive frown, must see something he don't like that Kev did... Vic
KIWI KEV...you california boy's have allway's lead the way in hotrods and customs. man what a first class build. expect a lot of calls inquiring about that old s.b. mill. that old-old tunnel ram, double hump heads, and fender well headers. O YEA somebody wants that iron for sure...POP.
This is the shock mount for my Lakewood 50-50 shocks. I did not use the body for top mount as it did not reach so had to fab the mounts that will work with these new shocks. This new top mount is much stronger than the original sheetmetal anyway. BTW, the shitty welds aren't Kev's, unfortunately I take full responsibility for them... Vic
Hey Vic,was reading this cool thread again and looking closely at the pics and i found the pic of your 55 on the hoist quite interesting, cool car, cool hoist.Hmmm it's movable. Neat idea.
It's movable so I can move the car around but when I lift it up, I must remove the wheels so the four posts sits on the ground solidly. Glad you enjoy the pix. Vic
Vic, you mean Kevin was telling me untruths when I was last out there visiting him??!! He told me it never rains there and was blaming me for bringing the rain with!! Gee, that 55 looks familiar!!
Great lookin old garage! Thanks for sharing the pics on your gasser project. I have to start the steering portion of my gasser job and for some reason am a little aprehensive. Your pics helped a lot, thanks.
Ol 55, you shoulda seen all the rain we had though we're having a break now - getting more next week. Heading to the GNRS tomorrow... Vic
