I have nerver owned a 55 Ford, but I am going to look at one next week and I would like to know if all 55 crown vic's have the chrome or stainless running across the top or was that an option for some cars.
Not sure but one thing to look at will be the cross member under the radiator . The 55/56 are awful for them rusting out real bad and needing to have a new one welding in . Not to worry as there is a place on Ebay that sells them and they fit perfectly too . I replaced the one in my 55 with it and worked out very nicely . I think that chrome strip going across the roof is on all of the Vics but not 100% sure since I have never owned one either . I am sure the many 55 Vic owners will chime in and let you know for a sure 100% . Good luck with your new 55 Vicky if you buy it ! They are really a sweet car for sure ! I would love to own one too . Jim
EZ way to check is Google images, the Crown Victoria has the chrome across the center of the roof http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7d/1955_Ford_Crown_Victoria_Skyliner.JPG the standard Victoria does not http://serendipitously.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/1955-victoria-2nd-shantz.jpg
Reading this and therefore responding late in the game, but if you are still looking - Yes (unless someone has removed and not replaced it). And you will want to look close at this stainless steel Tiara, since there are NO aftermarket replacements and any dents, dings or imperfections must generally be insignificant to be repairable. Consider that these three pieces are in-your-face noticeable.
All Crowns have the roof chrome. Thats what makes it a Crown Vic! The outside chrome is stainless, and the inside stuff is pot metal,(at least it is on my gl***top) The gl***top has the lip on the inside for the sunshade, where the steel roof does not. If you like the low roof but not the basket handle, look at any 56 2 door hardtop. They have the same roof, but no sedan post.
