1952-59 Ford '55 Customline Door

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by The Short Stroke Kid, Nov 20, 2018.

  1. Been hunting off and on locally for a p***enger door for my '55 customline and have yet to turn up much anything. Figured I would search on here or maybe someone can point me in the right direction for even a door skin? Does anyone out there even produce them? I just figure, if I gotta search nationally for a door, maybe I would get lucky and find one in a matching color and matching patina? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Pssst.............looks like there's one right behind ya.
Seriously. good doors are hard to come by. Make your priority as rust free as possible. What part of the world do you live, it would help for search suggestions.

  3. Ha... ya, the '56 in the background is suppose to be my main project. I bought the '55 to get on the road and be my driver to hold me over until the '56 is done. I am slowly finding out how hard it is to locate a good door, and well parts in general out here. I am located in Oregon, but for the right price on the right door I'd be willing to have one shipped in. I am considering havi by this door "somewhat" fixed just so I can use the car, just didnt want to get in too deep in repairs if there was a door out there that already matched what I needed.

How much of the door is bad? EMS makes lower door inner and outer repair panels.

  5. It's got a pretty good crease in it and a hole. A tractor was backed into it 20 some years ago and its sat ever since. 20180917_180900.jpeg 20180918_112953.jpeg 20180918_113101.jpeg 20180918_113003.jpeg

Red barn obsolete Ford parts in Belle Plain Kansas. The owner is Kirk Hatfield. Don't have the number, but all he deals in is 55 and 56 fords. He has a lot of NOS stuff and a lot if vehicles. He also specializes in cushmans if anyone needs parts for those.

Wish it was a drivers door you needed. I parted out a 55 customline this summer but I need the p***enger door.

The only listing I have for an Oregon salvage yard is a guy that specializes in '57's.

  9. I am gonna have to look him up. I'd rather invest some money into a decent replacement than fixing this door or having a mismatched door.

  10. I might look into them, I've dealt with them before on some '70s truck parts. They were really proud of their stuff over there.

  11. Ran into a couple deals like that. Seems I can find drivers doors not p***enger. I have a guy local who has a 55 parts car he will sell me but the door i need isnt in much better shape. Also talked to a guy in cali with a beautiful '56 door for a great price but he wont ship and it would cost me roughly 600 bucks plus the price of the door to make the drive.

  16. I appreciate the heads up, I found a good door as well in Cali, but it's still a 12 or 13 hour drive to his place and would make the bill 600 bucks or so for ride. Was thinking it wouldnt be such a big deal to make that run if I was to drag a car or truck back to flip up here but cars are pretty spendy down there too.

  17. Ya, if I remember right, the 4 doors arent long enough. Much appreciated though.

You try ebay at all? Look up a door or even lower control arms (or any other parts). If they are a business parting cars you can google their name to find their phone number. Lot's of recyclers will show the whole car even though that ad may just be for control arms.

Try shipping the door thru Fastenal. Real reasonable prices.

  21. I've heard fastenal and even grey hound have great shipping rates. Just gotta find someone with the right door for the right price who isn't afraid to ship. Figure I'd have better luck finding the exact door/color/patina match searching nationwide.

I'll be headed to a salvage yard in Canyon City, Colorado either tomorrow or next week. The yard is a combination of new and old stuff and I'm actually going up to get some stuff off a twin sister to my DD Subaru, but I'll be checking out their old car section as well. If they have anything, I'll take photos.

He was the guy who sold me the p***enger door guts for my '59. He sells on eBay too. Good to deal with.
Try Owens Salvage in Texas too.

They recently downsized their lot so I'm not sure what they have left. I've heard they'll charge extra for any parts that are already attached to the door like window regulators, handles, gl***, etc.
I used to stop by their lot on my way home before they downsized just to browse what they had. They had a lot of good stuff but I didn't pay any attention to their Ford stuff then.

  26. Theres another decent lot, or use to be decent lot up north in Washington up near Centralia or Napavine. I've stopped in a time or two years and years ago when I lived up that way and they always had cool old stuff but not sure of the name of the place or if they even have anything left.

  29. Sounds good Dave, I'd be curious to see them. I got a lead on some doors here local as well, just waiting to check them out. Not perfect, but for the right price I'll buy anything.
