Doe's anyone know if there is a place to get gauges to fit my 55 Customline (volt, oil press) in the stock places. My car came with the speedo, gas & temp only. I would like to get the oil press, volt. I have a 6v that im changing to 12v. Will i need to go with after market gauges & moulnt them under dash.
    Thanks

I think most aftermarket gauges will fit (Stewart/Warner, Auto Meter etc).

You can't get any gauges to fit properly where the idiot lites are now. You can put them in the flat area below the IP or hang them below the dash ( I think that looks unfinished).

  5. they didnt have gauges for oil and voltage..just idiot lights. you can connect the oil pressure light up with no problem but the voltage light is a whole other issue if you're going with an alternator setup. i did the 3 gauge cluster under the dash and hated it..it just seems tacky to me (no offense).. Just a side note, i did replace my stock fuel and temperature gauge with autometer gauges.. it takes a little bit of fabrication but it was pretty easy.

I don't know about you guys, but I really like under the dash gauges. My eelco guage cluster and stewart warner gauges look pretty nice to my eyes. Lots of folks did it back in the day

I was thinking about taking the hole for the radio and fitting in a 4 in one gauge.

I've thought about using the panel in my car but I've never heard anything good about Dolphin gauges.

Wouldn't take much effort to fab that panel either at home or farm out to a sheet metal shop. X2 on the dolphin gauges. On my 57 the plan is to fab a similar panel use the smiths gauges out of the donor front suspension Jag and doll up the dash a bit. A couple different size hole saws and a piece of sheet metal should be all that's needed. From past experience suggest doing a dummy full size dash insert out of cardboard and plan the layout first including turn signals etc... Under the dash mounted gauges have been done forever may not look right to some but its a good simple option.
