I have a 55 customline and am having problems with the speedometer......Ive disconnected the cable from the gauges and the ****** and it spins freely between. Ive pulled the plastic gear out of the ****** and attatched it to the cable to make sure it wasnt stripped on cable side, and all is well there. My problem is, I install the gear onto the cable, then slide the ***embly back into the ******, and while driving i get no spin from the cable inside the car??? any help on what to look for, new ways of testing or possible new parts that i may need to correct this. Im pretty new to this car and im trying to get the few kinks it has figured out!! any advice is appreciated!!

  2. sounds like the gear on the tailshaft of your trans might be stripped. Connect cable etc back up at trans end , drop it off the speedo and see if you can turn that end of the inner cable - if you can the gear is stripped or damaged . If you can't turn it , go for a drive and see if inner cable is turning then then .
