Hey, does anybody know anything about dodge rearends from 1955. I've been told it is a pretty common rearend, and that I could easily find new gearing for it. Anybody got any info? The car has a 2 speed auto trannie and 270 hemi now, and I'm thinking about putting a th350 behind the hemi. I think the gear ratio is in the mid 2's right now, and I would like to get it closer to 3.73.

I just checked the shop manual, and for 1955, all Powerflite Chryslers (dunno about Dodge/Desoto) had 3.54 rears EXCEPT for the New Yorker, which came with 3.36 for some reason, and manual transmission cars, which ALL came with 3.73. I'm not sure if it'd be the right width, but I'd bet it is.

Oh, and I have no idea what the rear on your Dodge is, but Powerflites came with a 1.78:1 first gear, so it might make it seem like the rear is some ridiculous ratio in the low 2's [IMG]
