Post up some pics, we'd be glad to help. Also search for other threads with '55's already in them... you may get some good ideas. -Chris
Why do you want people to text you? You can "text" right here, and a helluva lot quicker... Do some lookin' around to see how this site works, it'll save you a lot of grief... I don't think anyone is going to text you all the steps it will take to convert a '55 Dodge LWB truck over to a Dakota ch***is using their cell phone. C'mon. -Chris
I think he has a '55 Dodge 300 truck with a 315 (hemi or Poly) & he wants to put it on a Dakota frame, but he works @ a pizza shop & has a beer budget.
You might want to go over to www.moparts.com forum and look in the "truck" and "street rod" sections. This subject has been covered there. Gene
moparman360......if you want advise here, do yourself a favor and ditch the 12 year old text speak. Use complete words and sentences with punctuaction and proper capitalization. No, we are not english teachers. We are adults that can read and write and maybe even help you, but you first must speak our language.
Yeah, ditto what he said! There's good folks and great advice on this site, but it's really hard to read what you're asking when it's in this nonstop "stream of consciousness" form. Remember, YOU already know what you're tryin' to say ... we DON'T.
ok well lets see hear. the truck is a 55 dodge 300. it has a 315 poly with a one barrel carb. a four spd granny lo ******. and a 4:88 rear end. its a long bed. now as for the txting part i meant txt if you have any info because i have to go to the libary to get on the net. next i cant navigate this site for **** so thers that and i work at a pizza place so my pay checks are usualy only bout 60 buks for 2 weeks
Yep our public education system at work. Not to pick on you but you really were not taught how to write a complete sentence with the proper punctuation and capital letters. But if I were to give you any advice, I would suggest you leave the truck stock and get it running and then worry about frame swapping. You could also probably swap to disk brakes to help it stop. But first get any other issues resolved first.
yes well actually i can write great its just my school didnt have computers so im trying to figure out wich ****ons to push and wat they do and i cant spell for **** and if i dont type it i for get wat im even trying to think of im a mechanical person put a newer motor in front of me and im fine a computer and imm lost
X 2 with Texas Dart. And if he has trouble navigating this site then how did he manage to post an avitar? .
I have a 55 dodge truck and thought i would pm him just to see if i could lend a hand, we can all use some help now and then, turns out he can write, we can`t all be rhodes scholars al the time, i`m lucky if i can dress myself in the morning. Bjut i thought old vehicles and helping out was what most here were here for. Lets see if we can steer him in the right direction, god knows that if he posted a thread about an a or rpu, he would hav e no shortage of help. My thoughts on this lovely praire afternoon
Moparman - I'd try to steer clear from any ch***is swaps... honestly a high percentage of them look like ****. Why? Because the wheel well openings / wheel bases RARELY match right up between the old body, and the new ch***is. If you have the wheels in the wrong spot in the fender wells it WILL look like ****, and WILL look like you just slapped an old body on a newer ch***is. This is just my opinion, but if I were you, i'd modify your truck on it's existing frame. I know it sounds like more work to take the Dakota bits and pieces off of the Dakota frame and put them on the old one... but trust me, it'll look a helluva lot better. Truck design from the 50's vs. 90's are drastically different. Newer frames look like ****. Your old frame is very straight and probably 100% flat on top. Look at the Dakota's. It probably has a nasty drop in the middle. That why they were able to get more leg room out of a shorter roof line. They lowered the floor boards and sat you lower in the truck. Now look at the '55. Tall side windows, tall roof line, flat floor. That's how they got you more headroom/leg room back then. Just make the roof taller lol. Anyway there's more than oneway to skin a cat, but if you're on a budget, i'd say stick with the original frame, get it running in stock form if you can. If not, leave the suspension stock and throw a newer motor in it. Save up for when you can do it "right". Good luck. -Chris
Grammar, punctuation, spelling, these are the fundamental elements of the new generation HAMB member. Speed is a by-product; going fast. But remember; the car is you, you are the car. -Memphis Raines...or something to that effect.
Whoever is selling him his `55`is actually selling him a 57 3 quarter ton or larger dually, yes, it`s the one in his avatar he says. Whole new can of worms there.....................
ok thats great advice so the big question is where oh where to find basic parts for the truck to find out if it runs water hoses and rediator fuel pump carb rebuild all of that kind of stuf
the truck as it sits now has the dually style front rims but the rear end is a single but its got a dually in the bed so i have now clue what hands have been in this truck
Check if the engine is seized or rusted inside if you can peek in anywhere before you pay off the guy for a big pile of oh my god
Yahoo groups have a 54-60 dodge truck group, some help there for heavy stuff, maybe even parts near you. All else fails is find the parts yourself, learn the hard way in some cases what fits and does not and why, lots of weird interchanges on these models.
Leave it stock. Get it running first, then get it where you can drive it using as many of the existing pieces as you can. Every trip to to parts store equals $$$. Many of the pieces on those old trucks can be repaired and reused with a little work.
and this is goin to be my first hot rod so i have no clue if u look at my profile pics u can see what i no how to work on
You can get parts for that thing at your local Autozone. From their website: Distributor Cap AL950 $5.99 Rotor AL937 $3.99 Champion Sparkplug 404 $1.79 each There are some more parts listed online too. www.autozone.com They don't list the 315 for a truck, but if you search '57 Royal it will come up with a fair selection of parts. Some of them will need to be ordered, but they are cheap. I'm not saying that Autozone is the best quality parts, but they're available cheap and will get it running if you're on a budget. WHATEVER YOU DO!... if you rebuild the carb, get a new fuel pump etc. Be sure to use clean fuel lines and clean the tank, or even better use a clean gas can for it's first start. You don't want to **** a bunch of **** through a fresh fuel pump/carburetor. It'll lead to a bunch of issues and you'll be running around in circles figuring out why you can't tune it and why it runs like **** with all those new parts on it. **** in the tank and lines is a big deal. -Chris
