I am starting a build and was curious.... Does anyone have photos of a ***mins in a Coe. I will be mounting the engine up front. I am just looking for any thoughts or ideas on the subject.... Thank you.
I was going to put a 5.9 in my 56 C600. After all the measurements, I decided not to. The cab floor and the firewall would need serious cutting and the ****** will put the shifter at the back oroutside the cab. These engines are wide and tall. The53-56 cabs just don`t have the space. I have concidered the 7.3 turbo diesel or the powerstroke as it will fit with some cutting of the floor but not as much as the 5.9 would. All this is on the stock frame. When you transfer the cab on another ch***ie all bets are of again.
I got a look at a 4BT today and took some measurements. Length of the motor from crank pulley to end of block is 27" from the center of the crank to the top of the motor was appx 24" width of the motor is 24" With some work it may fit an a C600, But the motors do vibrate a bit. Not sure of the tq or hp. May be under powered for truck use.
I have a 5.9L ***mins in 1954 Chevrolet COE. It resides under the cab. Fits well as it is a 6 cylinder. The turbo does adds some width but is above the frame rails. You can see pictures here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/90901505@N04/sets/72157632203097752/
I have a 6BT (5.9L) in my F4 OK not a COE. You can change the position of the turbo by changing the exhaust manifold.
I've been told a 4bt could only be relied on as a Saturday night cruiser. No good for much of any towing duty. I should be sealing the deal on a 1956 C600 by the end of July JML
Who cares about towing when I have a 6BT. I would use the 4BT in something smaller. I have to find one first.
The 4bt goes in lots of delivery/box trucks and can be easily tuned up past the 6bt's 160hp and 450lbft (not sure of the 4bt stock output). The availability of the 6bt is part of the attraction. The 4bt is no slouch. Just give it more fuel.
