She is all original. I looked at several 55 Fords most had either a 302 or a 351 under the hood. I chose this one because it still had the original motor in her, albeit rebuilt some time ago evident by the vintage rebuild tag bolted to the front of the block.

She is powered by the stock 272 with three on the tree with a manual overdrive. She is no speed demon, but sounds super nasty on the freeway with the smithys dumping out the side.

thanks again for the kind words.

That's funny! I feel the '56 had better side trim and grill fascia. Although, as I have a '56 Ranch wagon, I guess I'm just more partial to that year Ford instead.

Did someone say paint it red?
This was mine a couple of years ago. Used to get plenty of attention over here. Very mild custom, basically just lowered over chrome smoothies, don't think 55's need much more. I think they are a great looking cars.

Getting the thread back in line, I'd like to say I find this ’55 quite to my taste. It looks like a car someone can live with and enjoy. Who know, maybe some day he will paint it shiny. In the meantime he will get to cruise with his arm out the window and get the ladies.

    Peace and Rubber Duckies.

I'd like to echo Unionville's sentiments. It's a neat car, but certainly no custom. It's nosed and decked. Barely lowered, if at all, dog dish hubcaps, still has door handles, stock grill. All you did was remove the side trim. It doesn't even have dummy spots or lake pipes. There are LOTS of great looking 55-56 Ford custom cars, so it's not like you have no precedent to work off of. The interior looks clean (minus the gross leopard carpet), so the outside deserves some shiny paint.

Maybe my opinion makes me look like a douche, but you did ask for opinions so ultimately any flack you get is your own fault. Lots of us here on the board know how much work and what a commitment it is to truly finish a car. To come on and ask what we think of your finished "build" is a slap in the face to those on here who have more time block sanding their rides than you have in yours total. Again, I'm not saying that your car ****s, or is gay, or anything like that. I dig it, and it looks like I'd be fun. But it ain't done, and it isn't a kustom.

Finally, the whole anti-goldchainer, us-vs.them, rockabilly rebel at***ude should die hard. Around my parts, the goldchainers have some of the nicest kustoms around, usually drive them around, and frankly, keep talented builders in business. They have as much of a place in this hobby as anyone. Does it make me a loser that I don't do my own dental work?

Lots of cool stuff for the Yblocks these days. My 53' has the 3sp w/overdrive feature. Got to love the overdrive. 70+ on the highway.

    have a blast.

BTW, keep that Y block running as long as you can. Great motors with adequate power. They tend to leak a **** load of oil, but neoprene rear main seals are available now and cure that easy. I used to get 25 mpg highway with my 272/3 speed combo. If better rear main seals were around 6 years ago, that motor would still probably be running good in my 57

Already replaced the rear main with neoprene but still leaks. I'm over it, the old girl just likes to mark her territory. besides now the underside of the car is painted "Y block black".

That's what i keep telling myself. It makes me feel better after all the work I have done. There are a ton of blood sweat and tears into this car, and it has been a long road!

Seriously? I find that kind of ridiculous... I mean, the guy is just trying to have fun. He's not bagging on your shiny car.

I don't think it makes you a *****... maybe just a little insecure.

  20. ditto...to each their own...yeah maybe the word custom was a bit out of line but the idea is to have fun and at least he doesn't have frying pans for air cleaners, or a machete for a shifter, or a a pair of vise grips for a steering wheel...it fits within his budget and he's gonna have fun with it...thumbs up from me

...remember, it's your CAR AND ONLY LOOKS LIKE **** ONLY IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT. Who cares what others like. If you like it, ...then it's a cool ride.

    btw, I like it.

    Greasy,

You already know how I feel about your ride. But I think I will chime in on the board and say that car is bad ***. This car gig is about what floats your boat. Take it from a guy who rocks a 1969 International 4X4, cool is what you say it is.

As the owner of many sleds, I would trade any of them for that Ford! Rock on brotha!

(Standing by for my message board lecture from the haters)
