I recently purchased a 55 fairlane wagon. It is stock other than wheels and a disk brake conversion. It's a y block with power steering. The power steering is VERY sensitive. If I drive with more than 2 fingers it darts and feels like I will run off the road. Ideas on what's wrong? I've done a search and haven't come up with much.

Have you had the front end aligned?

Start by checking that all the suspension and steering components are tight and in good condition. You can do anything if you’ve got worn out bushings or tie rods.

Next get an alignment from a shop that knows what they’re doing. Find the grumpiest old guy you can.

next, what tires are you using and what air pressure?

Has the original power steering pump been replaced with an aftermarket pump?
