I get ready to intall a vent window only to have the pivot to just snap off. My gl*** guy should have caught that it was broken, but never the less I need a replacement. As far as I can tell there are no reproductions available. Anyone dealt with this or have any suggestions?
Both of the vent windows had broken lower pivots and I could never find a correct p***enger car replacement although I finally found a replacement piece for a early Ford truck and I ordered them, they worked fine. BTW, there is a left & right. HRP https://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/fordpart.php?number=BAAA-8121408-K
On my 56 one was very rusty and broke so I just welded a new piece on the bottom. That being said I would have bought a new one had I known they were available.
The lower vent window pivots were reproduced many years ago, they occasionally show up on Ebay. I would buy them anytime they showed up because most are ready to fail because of rust. That's stinks if your gl*** is already installed, they are installed with rivets on the inside of the gl*** channel. I just looked on Ebay and there is a ton of the reproduction vent window pivots but nothing for the '55 Ford p***enger cars, many other years and models.
HRP said he used the 53-55 F100 pivots successfully. I had seen them and thought they might. Got one coming Monday. One of mine is like new, the other rusted. Don’t know why the gl*** guy did not see it. Not a big deal.
Well. the F100 pivots don't work in a 55. They are similar but will not work without reworking them. I was actually thinking of trying to combine the two. However I decided to try a guy that a friend had mentioned some time back. He is about an hour away and supposedly had lots of 55-57 stuff. Sure enough he had a good pivot. I also needed a new hood latch and he had that also. I asked how to pay, he said I will send you the parts with an invoice and you pay the invoice. I fully expected to be prepared to bead blast the parts when they arrived. Here is what I received the following day. $40 for the latch, $20 for the pivot.
Found him at a swap meet years ago. Bought stuff there and again through the mail. The outside door trim I bought was well packaged for shipping. I recommend as well.
