Hello. Does anyone know if the clutch linkage on a 55 Merc is different than the 55 Ford. The Merc has a tubular Z bar. Trying to find the bracket that bolts to the block that interfaces with the Z bar. From online pics it looks like the Merc has a shaft on the motor bracket and a clam shell pivot ball fits on the shaft and goes into the end of the Z bar. Any Y block gurus here that are acquainted with this clutch linkage? Thanks
Sounds like the z bar on my 55 bird, but it’s been a while since I’ve had it apart. Post the picture you’ve found.
It is like the bracket on my 57 T’bird. Doubt Ford did a lot of different ones. T’bird suppliers will have them.
Not that techy so can't get the picture posted. There is a site online that has the whole service manual for the 55 Merc and the diagram of the clutch linkage is around page 120. From looking online it seems the 55 Ford linkage may be different. The Merc has a tubular z bar and the Ford bars seem to be from flat stock.
Page 191 item 77505 in the 55 Merc chassis book. That is the bracket that interfaces with the z bar. The z bar on page 190 is different than the z bar on page 191. The 55 Merc has the tubeular z bar. Now to hopefully be able to find that bracket and clamshell bearing that goes into the z bar. Maybe the Thunderbird is similar.
