Hot Rods 55 Nomad Windshield Wiper

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 55 Nomad, Aug 11, 2023.

  1. Does anyone have a schematic of the windshield wiper system on a 55 Chevrolet Nomad.
The passenger side wiper cable became unhooked from its operating point last evening Driver side works fine.

Or if you have some knowledge of this system I would appreciate your thoughts. I would like to have some idea of what awaiting me before I tear into it. And as always it appears to be in a hideous spot up under the dash.

    My thanks…

I believe there are pictures and info in the factory shop manual. Should be the same for any tri five Chev, Olds or Buick.

Get yourself some pillows, that you can get dirty. Your back will thank you.
As far as schematic, all I can offer is, I was 19 when I replaced my 210's cables. (56 yrs ago)
    Oh yeah
I found in these situations a cool light source and a hook or magnet, to be a help

  4. Here's a diagram of the basic layout, check out other posts on Trifive.com, as well. 1-11.jpg

  5. There is a Utube video of a guy who shows how to set up the cable drive system. He does it on I believe a 55 Buick.

  6. Hopefully, it's something simple, like a clip fell off a rod or link.......
and it's in a place where you can get your hands on it, not buried or hidden.

That's a relatively easy fix. I installed new transmission shafts in my 55 Nomad many years ago. The transmission
shaft is spring loaded, you can pull the wiper arm off and push the shaft in while a helper pulls down on the cable
from under the dash. Let go of the shaft and the cable will remain loose, you then can position the cable under the
dash and on the drum. Then have the helper hold the cable in passion and depress the shaft once again, the spring
loaded shaft will tighten the cable. your done......

  11. Use the GM service manual. No clips to fall off. Laying on your back makes it all look different. One side will be easy the other will be harder. A copy of the sheet under the dash with you will help. If a cable has broken you’ll have to replace it.
