I just thought some of you might like to see what I have had tucked away for several decades. I bought this car in 1969 from a farmer who was using it for fencing, spools of barbed wire, fence posts and the like were just thrown into the back. He told me his son who was in the military brought it back from Texas the year before. It did have a "Waco Chevrolet" emblem on the gate. It had a 235/PG in it which I threw away in favor of a L-79 327 out of my '65 Chevelle. I soon after got married and life took over. It has been sitting in a lean-to since the mid 80's before that it was always inside. There are several people who have been trying to buy it from me over the years, and I called one yesterday......he seems to have lost interest, so who knows.....back in storage and let my son or daughter deal with it when the time comes.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=40992&pictureid=488750
neat car! I had my 57 suburban sitting for years, I finally finished it and I'm driving it everwhere...just takes a little fire on your behind, and you could do that too. I don't know how to make the album pictures appear in a post, but I was able to highlight the URL in your post, and open it somehow....
I see several rigs that could have had fence posts and barb wire stored in them ant one time. Witch one are you talking about? If it's the 55 Nomad covered in dust I'd like to be the next to maybe say I changed my mind. The Wizzard
Thanks to hemifalcon for posting the pics. I guess I complained about the guy too soon, he called back today about noon, and was here an hour and a half later. He decided after 2 hours of going over it, he wanted it after all..He has one, but needs a lot of parts that I had extras of. Now he'll have two. It kinda made me sad to see it sell, as I told my wife, it wasn't even community property, so I get ALL the money. Now maybe I'll have the cash needed to finish one of the other toys....
old ....old guide 1. $98,500 2. $68,950 3. $44,330 4. $19,700 5. $11,820 6. $3940 right NOW there hot in the car build (restore) folks with higher prices than listed
I'll never tell But, I will say it won't be restored to stock. I have known the guy since he was a kid, he is now a grandfather, and he has wanted this car for years. I just wasn't ready to sell. He knew exactly what I paid for it in 1969, and paid me what I asked for it, which was a whole bunch more. Thanks for all the interest and all the PM's, the original post never meant to start a bidding war. Just a story about an old Nomad.
Good for you to keep the price to yourself. Never understood the questions of what stuff sells or was bought for.
he got it for 75bucks and sold it for 125.00 now i feel better..... na just funnin as long as there happy on both sides is what counts
its a beaut .... hope that you ll keep it touch w/ him and seeing the progress that they will doing to it ...
The story from the beginning.....The Nomad in my avatar was my first car. I sold it when I got drafted into the Army in 1966, 2 years is a long time when you're 18. And where I was going, who knew if I'd come home. During this time my Dad found a '57 Nomad and bought it. (for me he said) He liked it so much, he kept it after I got home. So....I looked for another. Driving around my home town I happened to see this one in a K-Mart parking lot. I waited around for awhile, but no one showed...it had one of them old plastic, springy things wrapped around the column that had the owners name and addy on it. I wrote it down and the next day went looking. Like I said, he was using it for fencing, and I walked out into his field wanting to talk to him. He said I would have to wait 'til he went to dinner, so I did. He invited me into his house while he ate. No free lunch tho. When I asked if the car was for sale, he just leaned back in his chair, hooked his thumbs into his overall suspenders and said "Son, you ain't got enough money to buy that car". I told him to put a price on it and we'll see.. He smugly said "2 hundred and 25 dollars" I reached for my wallet and just as smugly replied "Get the ***le"
That great little L79 will be getting a new home soon. It will be going back home, between the fenders of my 1965 Chevelle SS. Thanks Dad for keeping it all these years!
